New Yamaha MT-09 triple engine

It won't take long for S&W Mototech to make racks to put hard luggage on it. They already have kits for some pretty sporty bikes with slim tailsections that could easily be made to fit on this bike.

It will be interesting to see the final product and the reviews as I am wondering where they will scimp (brakes / suspension) for the $9 000 pricepoint. Will abs be available as an option? The 14l tank does not bother me as it is nice to get off the bike too and the smaller tank keeps the "riding" weight and centre of gravity down. I currently have a 16L tank on my F800r and it usually runs longer than most of the bikes I ride with.

that is true but for some bikes there was never side bags mounts made. Will wait and see

Makes more power than the current model R6 and weighs less. Nicer seating position than the FZ8 and a lot more compact overall.

I just hope they use this engine in a few more models, it'd be nice to see a full fairing version.

Yeah, but usually SW Mototech stuff costs $$$$.. sigh ;)

Why do they go out of their way to uglify them all the time here?

The Signals are usually what needs changing for NthAmerica along with the side Reflectors .

If they modified that model slightly to have retro analogue instrumentation and a retro styled headlight and tailight I would be powerless not to purchase. Even as the bike looks right now it ticks a lot of the boxes for me.

All attractive, waterproof, quality hard luggage is $$$. Period.
I was going to put triple hard bags with integrated tailights etc on my GSXR1000 a few yrs ago. Added up the cost, and was almost $2000.
Instead I got a single wheeled trailer,LOL. Easily moves from bike to bike. Has an ownership and can be bought and sold. Carries twice as much stuff as Goldwing luggage. Doesn't hinder the bike's performance too much.

anyone got any more news and insights into the Euro or US models? (MT-09 FZ-09) ?

Each cylinder has 5 1/3 valves.

It looks unremarkable, like it was designed by a committee, and someone on the committee thought a Speed Triple looked cool.

Bike will sell well, but you can see how they got to the price point. But no deal breakers and something you can upgrade once you have the bike. Riding the bike to see how they managed the fueling will be key. Yamaha have been known to take a few yers to get the fueling correct, ask any 2007 - 2008 FZ1 owner. Booster plugs and map updates will be available pretty quickly in the aftermarket.

This will look really awesome with no fender in the rear.
Also you can see that the engine is essentially the frame of the bike, which other manufacturers have been known to do before (Ducati I think?)

I really like it. Pretty clean setup.

many BMW models use engine as stressed members, intigrating it to the frame

This bike is getting lots of attention in the US market. Going to challenge the street triple for sure. I bet they'll release another model to challenge the tiger 800

That's the first thing that came up on ADVrider. Instead of congratulating Yamaha on introducing a cool looking, reasonably priced, naked FI triple with good ergonomics (and ABS in euro-land), the inmates immediately began yearning for the Yamaha Tiger.

There's a bunch of photoshopped examples. Ugh. Enough with the plastic and luggage. I've got a Burgman for that. If I'm going to complain, send the Santa Claus Red/Gold version back for a respray and give us the Matte Grey w/euro-blinkers and ABS instead.
