New TV

Hey all.
So over the holidays I purchased a new TCL 55" Android Smart TV.
I'm pretty happy with it and the picture quality is quite nice considering how much I paid.
I set it up in the bedroom.
I still have my Sharp tv in the living room and I have it hooked up to Rogers with an HD box on basic cable.
I do not have cable in the bedroom and will not be putting it in there.(older condo)
Ive been going through some of the apps available on Google Play store and have re registered with Netflix.
I cant seem to find much in the sports area and would like to be able to watch the late NHL games on Saturday nights.
I love me a good Cal vs Edm on a Saturday night.
A friend lent me a android box last year and I tried it out in the living room.
I was surprised at how much content an android box have along with the endless movies.
I also noticed the depletion in quality...I went back and forth from Rogers HD and android box during a hockey game and the quality was quite noticeable.
My questions are these...
1) If i decide to go with an android box its my understanding they are around $165 and then $15 for the internet service.
Do I need to purchase a android box or is it already built into the tv? (TCL 55" Android Smart TV)
2) Is going with an android box my best option?
I understand the quality is less with the android box so are there other things available?
3) Ive heard of Rogers Ignite...would this be something worth looking into? (currently my Rogers Cable is only around 50 bucks)
4) What would be my best options for Sportsnet and TSN?

I think with Netflix and some of the other apps I've got the movie parts covered just want to increase the availability with NHL and such.
Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated

Did you get it from Costco?
Then get your @$$ over there as I just saw posted on IG that all the TCL TVs are on rebate rn.

ive been out of the android box game for awhile, but as an alternative you could just buy the appropriate cable and plug a tablet/laptop into the TV to stream the games (for free) from the web. it's what i do.

most times you can find a stream @1080p so you aren't watching giant pixels run around the screen.

Have been using an android box for over a year and honestly I wish I had done it sooner.
Full Polish TV, full movie listing, and live tv streaming with literally zero issues in that time. Highly recommend.

If you already pay for cable, just use the GO apps and Rogers anywhere. You can add them as apps on your Android TV.

He will only be able to watch what he currently gets and I believe he mentioned basic cable. To get TSN/Sportsnet he will have to upgrade his Rogers package. $25/mo more gets you all the Sportsnet and TSN channels.

Hey all...so heres a bit of an update.
Cable whats that?...Ive been with Rogers forever and honestly the "Cable" part of the bill is the cheapest.
Considering its only around $50 a month I'll keep it as it allows me to login to CTV / Sportsnet / Global and such.
DAZN has zero hockey.
I'm still trying to side load Rogers go anywhere tv
Nvidea Shield...Ya it plays anything you throw at it for sure.
I may never leave the bedroom lol.
Chromecast...Thanks for this tip.
Its come in quite handy.
If find the junior game on TSN and click the box and it shoots it right to the tv...and really really nice quality
I have been away from Netfix for a few years now and the quantity is staggering so there's plenty for me to watch.
I'm going to hold off on a Android box for now.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase.
Thanks all for the tips and I'll keep exploring with the apps available.

If? Freudian slip?

Cable here. When the Junior game came on I flipped to channel 1234 and watched it in 4K. YRMV.

If it weren’t for the wife and kids I’d have cut the cable a long time ago. Having said that, my experience with a lot of the alternatives is lesser quality and sometimes less reliable service. I’d hope things have gotten better though.

You do not need a 165 dollar android box. You can use a fire stick. Works well and if your lazy, you can use Alexa to search for content. Most IPTV providers have 4K content. I cant say if it is real, as I do not have a 4k tv. You can get some providers for 12.00 a month. Or cheaper if paying by year. I would look around and try a few. I had one that was great for a week, then it constantly started freezing. I switched and my current one has been running very well for the last 2 months.
if you get a fire stick, there are a bunch of pre loaded apps on it. Some are free others you will need to subscribe to, such as the sports channels.

Tons of options out there. I just renewed our Android box subscription....very good value compared to cable. Will never go back.
