New trend?

They'd only generate revenue if there was either photo radar, or actual police enforcement.

Neither are the case in any of these areas.

Far too many people, especially the Karens and seemingly a lot of people on town councils seem to legitimately think that lowering the speed limits will solve speeding issues.

If BMW McSpeedyface was doing 100 in the previous 80 zone, I don't know who in their right mind thinks that lowering the speed limit to 60 with otherwise zero changes so far as anything else (much less any actual enforcement) is somehow going to stop those sorts of idiots from continuing to drive 100 in the new 60 zone. The new risk of a stunt driving charge for 40kph over on a non-400 series doesn't matter to these sorts when there's basically zero chance of them ever getting caught.
I was at a council meeting once with our Joe Horneck rep regarding the traffic circle return.

The crowd Karen’s were screaming for more enforcement (which I agree as people blatantly speed through local school zone) where the sergeant from the local division spoke up

‘You all want more enforcement? No problem. But please remember the last time we did it 90% of the people stopped and ticketed were local residents who then complained about getting pulled over and our officers not ‘doing real policing’

Be careful what you wish for. We had 2-3 blitzes in the last year…majority of stopped were local residents yet again complaining about unfair stopping.

I believe the same happened on Hockley, River Rd etc…vast majority of people getting charged were local residents crying foul because ‘why don’t you do a real job policing instead of sitting behind bushes pulling me over!?’

Same thing happens with "traffic calming" (ie speedbumps). Karen's scream for them and then complain about them damaging their mall-crawler suvs and want them immediately removed.

It's time to stop caring and just getting the job done.

Yeah, some of the same people who are complaining and asking for enforcement might ironically be the same ones getting caught.

Too bad, so sad.

100% agreed. But you know…people will complain regardless of what happens.

For the record I think it’s ridiculous what they’ve done, and now there’s a proposal to do another change.

$1M in our money POOF disappears.

I really need to get in on this consulting grift.

School drop-off zones are the best blitzes. So many angry Karen's calling for enforcement. So many big suvs with illegal tint driven by outraged moms getting tickets.

Got passed my someone on the 115 yesterday who was doing probably 130-140.

Actually saw them pulled over about 5 minutes later getting a safe driver award.

So, score at least 1 (yay?) for this entire year of me actually seeing someone get pulled over who deserved it.

Saw a Matmay pickup pulled over on Milburough Rd. of all places yesterday. It is 60 on a country road, though. and no one does the speed limit..

The complicated factor is traffic stops are one of the higher risk activities that cops undertake.

Got 2 tickets on the 407 on my FZR from some smarmy bullethead (speeding and an arbitrarily just because added bonus "hooligan on sportbike" tax following too close ticket). When my court case came up, the stormtrooper was off on Workman's Compensation with no chance of being able to testify before a Charter defence would kick in. He got hit while standing at another one of his victim's window on a stop on the 407. Gotta ❤️ Karma.

Just a heads-up ...

Caledon has done an arbitrary blanket speed limit reduction to 60 km/h on (almost) all rural roads that aren't provincial highways or Peel Region roads. These used to be posted at 80 km/h until a few years ago when they dropped to 70, now 60. Most of these are straight, boring roads with good visibility and it makes zero sense.

Welcome to the People's Socialist Republic of Hamilton, komerade.

Then again, you never know when a renegade stalk of corn is gonna dart across the road in front of you.

Then again, this is only a kilometer south of the above pic. There's that.

Fvuckijg full on anarchy on the 401 again.

I don't think that's 401 specific. I think it's near full on anarchy in the GTA, and that night the dirtbags decided to be on the 401.

I though the shiny new helicopters (and I suppose the old ones) were supposed to be deployed for this sort of thing.

Not many cops working at 2 am. I suspect almost all scheduled hours for the choppers will be daytime and nighttime only occurs rarely for a planned raid or blitz.

Assuming the cop SUV was responding to the shutdown/fireworks, again suspicious training. Blasting past in the other direction to turn around and try to get through a km long parking lot to reach the offenders seems like a lost cause. Parking on the left shoulder and running as many cameras as you have seems far more effective.

I guess that's the issue with modern policing management.

Crime tends to happen at inconvenient times, often at night.

That maneuver is called "showing the door" in police training.

They could have used 6 cruisers parked end to end on both express and collectors.

Pull a handful more cruisers forward and block the crowd in. They couldn’t go forward or backward so now start ticketing the first 2-3 rows of idiots.

Let them plead in court that they were just trying to get through. Tow the first 2-3 rows of cars on the spot.

F them.
