New Stats about Canadian Households/Families came out - Pretty Interesting Stuff

It wasnt easy but lets just say "more forgiving"

Right now if you make a mistake, it's not as easy.

I agree with this. Debt racks up at an alarming rate if you're not paying attention. And paying that off is a massive burden.

It's grim from an evolutionary progenic perspective maybe ?

That's what I meant. I'm not sure if caring what's best for the economy is necessarily in most people's best interest. I think most people want to have the best life with the money they have/make and "sharing" saves you money. But I agree with the rest of your post.

We don't manage it as well.

We overconsume and buy beyond our means... but thats another debate.

The only 2 groups of people having children are the wealthy and the poor. The wealthy because they can afford it and the poor because they don't care.

The poor because they don't care.

If we are talking about the poor in third world countries, I think the rational there might actually be a desperate hope that more kids might mean that there are better odds of having some sort of sustenance coming into the family so long as they can get the child to above the age of dependance which in those countries is like age 7. In fact a child can be sold in those countries for money - so it's quite literally a birthed asset. Sad but true.

If we are talking about "American" poor... then you could be right... maybe its that misguided "I get extra welfare if I have more dependants" mentality ? Or just pure disregard for the consequences... you see this in Hamilton a lot - pregnant teens. lol.

Glad to know there are more people out there not wanting to have children, was getting tired of being called selfish. So many (and I'm not saying all) children these days are spoiled little brats, I see it all the time at my work. But it's not the kids fault, it's the parents for allowing it, apparently this generation has absolutely no idea on how to raise a child so it's good to know that they aren't having as many kids anymore.

Lets raise a child properly together.

'If he does not hear, he must feel'

Back then you'd start early, everything was more accessible.

Whether it be personal finances, family-wise, career-choice wise, everything is a lot more expensive and therefore mistakes a costlier and will set you back for a longer time as it's more competitive in today's world.

And yes i could be more vague.

Given today's interest rates I would say there has never been a better time to borrow money.

I have never understood why people stayed at home till late 20's, or even 30's.....And how those people don't feel ashamed of themselves for doing it. Many of today's young people can't stand on their own two feet soon enough, and need mommy to wash their clothes and daddy to buy their groceries so they can spend what money they do earn on driving a fancy Infinity and wearing fancy clothes to go to the club every weekend.

We have a society of wimps coming up, I am afraid......but it's probably best if these adults still sucking on mama's tit stay single, and don't have kids anyways. They won't have anything of value to teach their offspring if they did have some, except how to be expectant and entitled, and allow your folks to take care of you when you are truly old and capable enough to do so on your own.

Beat me too it...um...what Omni said.

Life is alot more costly, things are now mostly disposable, society is leaning towards expansion of our minds and bodies rather then work to save and be stable and get rest for what tmrw brings. It seems most people are still cautious when entering relationships but do not fear the consecuences of not putting 100 percent into their relationships. A long time ago if you went around procreating with everyone you see it wasn't really accepted or even being gay or different from most people.

The world is always changing and I love it.

Given today's interest rate, people think exactly like that and borrow beyond their means.

capital has never been cheaper, if you spend it on junk, well thats just a wasted opportunity. Others see it as exactly that... opportunity.

That's the mentality that needs to stop.

its a fact, its not a mentality.

There really hasn't been a better time to borrow money in decades. That should not be contentious. If someone chooses to spend that money on consumption, thats their problem.

Debt is just a tool, its not good or bad, its just math. If you can't do the math, then sux2bu.

The interest rates may be low but that actual amount being borrowed is often ridiculous.

A 4 bedroom home in the GTA sells for half a million for no other reason than that's what people are willing to pay for it. The actual cost to build it is no different than a similar house outside the GTA that sells four 1/2 the price.

Living comfortably in a nice house with kids would be a lot easier if the GTA housing market wasn't retarded.

The GTA prices is seem mental compared to where I live, but compared to other places I guess it's nothing.
A home that sells in London for $300,000, is $600,000 in the GTA, and 1.5 million in Vancouver.

^no joke.

found a website that lists stats about local average income and local morgage, quality of life stuff. (link)

In vancouver the average home costs 75% of the average income made there. That means you must have a partner in order to live in a home.
In toronto it's 60%. Do-able by yourself but after taxes you'll have nothing left.
Hamilton is at 30%

All the condo people will be breading sometime in the next 5-10 years. We will see Vancouver pricing here soon.

And for those that "don't understand why/how..."

I had to move back home with my parents and I'm 33 years old. I did college (aviation) but that came to a halt. (lack of money) I had to change careers. After a bunch of entry level jobs i finally got an apprentiship. I'm currently in my 3rd year and I don't make enough to rent anything. I have no choice but to live with my parents. I'll be able to move out soon, but supply and demand has put housing out of my reach. I don't have kids because i'm responsible and I can't afford one.

Nobody has walked in everyones shoes, so before you judge, try to understand. Nobody's life has evolved the same way yours has.
