New rider in Richmond Hill

Hey, just got my m2 officially registered a couple days back (did the course last month) had to wait the 60 days, feels great haha :D

So I am the average teenager who wants to get his hands on his first bike, was looking at the sport, super sport like a typical teen for the past 6 months but I have realized those aren't for me YET.

Anyways I am looking to get a ninja 650 or a fr6z (60hp) bikes which will last me a while. If anyone in Richmond Hill wants to ride or show me a thing or two pm me or something. Still have little to no experience on a bike going to get my first one soon, if anyone has free time on their hands I could use someone to help me check out a bike before buying it.

Already met one biker who sold me a jacket, real cool guy who said he'd help me but he's a bit busy this weekend.

Get insurance quotes before you proceed dude

Congrats and welcome!
Unless money is not an issue, I suggest you start off with smaller cc bike and work your way up. Otherwise, you are looking at annual insurance bill to be greater than what you have paid for your bike.

Already did for a couple months, quoted me 3 times for
1) ninja 650r - $250 a month
2) ninja 250r - $113 a month
3) yama fz6r - $230 a month

Not too bad if I do say so myself :D I triple checked when I heard this!!

the ninja 650r is actually the sport touring model its not "slow" but its not super fast either, its only 60hp compared to the zx6r which is 100+hp

I think its a good bike to start on, and insurance wasn't really too much either so I think its fine :O did you think I was going to get the super sport kawi 636?

Where exactly did you get these quotes? Online? And what company. Online quotes are shady and subject to adjustments when you call in. So they are not set in stone.

And if those eyes are accurate I'm guessing your somewhere far away from the GTA.

no just because if you're "young" which I assumed to be under 25, then those quotes are outlandishly low and you should be careful. My first year (after holding my license for a year) was about $2900/yr for an SV650 with Jevco (who don't even have rates that good anymore).

Uh, I called in at dejardin (or however you spell it) and they gave me a quote ready to take my bank info to start the policy. I have heard reviews of this place, should I be worried? They also run "the personal" but thats a group insurance company. I live in Markham/Richmond Hill near markville mall.

I was shocked at the quotes too but hey it works for me! They DON'T insure any supersports though so maybe that is why? They also require a 3 year driving experience record OR the m2 safety course being taken to qualify for their insurance.

TD quoted me for $7000 so it was defiantly a big difference :D

P.S I forgot to mention this is JUST LIABILITY

Mhmm I have heard of Jevco didn't they get bought out? Ever heard of this place called dejardin?

Yeah Desjardins are good, my cars are with them. I guess they're making an agressive push for M/C business since Intact took over Jevco and people are running for the hills

Buddeeeyy, How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I got a quote last year from Statefarm which was the lowest of them all for $2400 a year Ninja 250R. So I don't know, sounds really cheap and good if it's true =)

im 17 haha man was service ontario teller shocked when they saw me registering a bike, she was a fellow biker too

mate, don't know how old you are (if you're 16) but im 17 and i got quoted $1300 for a 250R ninja per year!

I got quoted 87 for a 300, 161 for 600 2010 ninja and 171 for a 2012. I just can't make up my mind on which bike. Newly m2 myself with no hours logged just the training course. Getting everyone's input from the forums and fellow riders at my work place.

600 ninja? like a 636?

honestly the 650 ninja is a great bike, had it for two days but my only complaints is it needs a bit of modding the stock handle bars are horrible!

I'm 26. No sorry a ZX6R. Just timid of the SS power. Not that I'm going to be careless. Just want to be able to enjoy it. Hardest thing is actually finding a reputable dealer. One of the guys at my course recommended me to Vos motors. But I've read some bad reviews on them.

If you are interested in riding with a super motard drop me a line. A new rider as well and still have to wait another 2 weeks to get the M1 changed over to the M2. Can't really help too much on tips and such but down for a ride.

super motard? Just riding streets (straight roads) isn't that fun for me, know any good places?

If you do your own mods I'm down to do mods together and learn, it's a lot easier to do bigger mods with an extra set of hands.

I'm new too so unless you've been riding since you were a kid we're in the same boat haha

Near the Silver City theater, you?

oh wow, im just north of first markham place, not to far from ya, i go to hillcrest area a lot too, what do you ride? I've probably seen you around.

i bought my helmet at vos motors the guy was a really nice guy!

Check out the Richmond Hill riders group and Ride thread! The more we get the more rides we can all do.

Mangel, you CAN do fine on an SS as your first bike, but I would strongly advise against it. I had to wait for insurance and I think I'm 10x the rider I would've been if I started on a bike that scared me. The 250 never intimidated me for a second and when I moved up to the SV650 it was all gravy. Now on the Daytona after the first 1000k or so of apprehension and "woops" moments it's an absolute blast. The problem isn't being "respectful" of the bike, it's learning how to operate the bike (shifting, braking, turning) in traffic and in different road conditions and situations. If I started on the 675 my first season I would be dead (no joke) not because of me being an idiot but because of something stupid like missing a shift, or getting flustered, or dumping the clutch by accident, or grabbing too much brake, or not knowing how to rev-match a downshift, or locking the rear, take your pick. If a 250 does something unexpected it's possible for a newb to recover, and it's downright easy for an experienced rider to recover. If the 675 does something unexpected I'm sitting on 112rwhp of "Oh sheit" and all I have is experience and saddle time to cover my butt.

Stay away from VOS Motors...
