New out today .zūmo® XT2

My old Garmin for the cage lost the traffic feature after a decent number of years and I hate the replacement, Drive 52LMT.

It's something that you don't realize until you use it but the menu looks like it was designed by a politician, something for everyone.

With my old one I hit the "Where to" button and got all my favourites. The new one just gets me a complex menu of historic sites and the menu search began. It would be great if there was a navigator on board or it was being used at a desk like a laptop, sorting and scrolling. Too many buttons to push before I've got what I want.

It's a serious fine if you so much touch the screen while driving but there are times and places where one has to or suffer sitting in traffic for hours. The old one was more to the point and less of a risk of getting caught.

My first Garmin also had a one touch detour for when a jam came up.

800 bucks.....zumo can go pound sand.

I dont get why manufacturers charge insane amounts like this...
Because they can? My bigger question is why garmin makes so many skus (most of them marginal at best). Drop down to one or two for each mode of transportation and make them work well. Zumo seems to be better than the 30 skus they have for cars that are all marginal at best.

Iirc streetpilots were almost that much money 20 years ago. Waterproof and works well with gloves are very valuable traits for a bike.

$1200 in 2005 according to this

If the unit is mounted to your car or bike, then you can touch it while driving. If the unit is hand held and you use it while driving, then you are in violation.

i wish they would just make a round one that shows you the route (NOT the beeline moto).
there used to be the tomtom vio but it was discontinued.

I thought otherwise. Regardless, at 88 feet per second one doesn't want to touch more than the minimum.
The police officer who replaced Cam Wooley - I think his name is Kerry Schmidt gave a talk to a bunch of riding instructors several years ago and this question came up. He clarified that the law is around handheld devices which is regardless of the speed of travel. Hence why people get caught while stopped at red lights for holding and using their phones.

That said, if someone was interpreted to be driving like an idiot while using a mounted device, then there are a variety of other / different tickets or charges that could apply.

Why round? Aesthetics? My understanding is round screens cost more per sq in. There are some round tft screens designed to be used as auto gauges on aliexpress but I think you can send many different things to them. That may be a good starting point to see if you can make something work. Waterproofing the installation wouldn't be too hard.

The people I see holding their phones also look at them. Maybe facetime?
