New OPP cameras scan licence plates

No big deal....just another newsflash I guess.

They'll cruise parking lots for plates that are tied to unpaid parking tickets, stolen vehicles, suspended licenses and/or perhaps arrest warrants.

Nothing too crazy.

If you are a criminal, the worst place you can be, is in a car.

those scanners were pilot project March 16, 2004 , they scanned a few plates , 2 came up .. one driver fled, didn't go to far, long story short, that date is on his grave marker.

Best use found, apparently, was recognizing stolen cars/plates. If they used them in T.O., maybe they would catch that white van involved in so many bike thefts?

They use them in Toronto already. Seen the cop car slowly driving by parked cars on streets running the plates

Welcome to 2012. (almost 2013)

They introduced this technology back in late 2009.

TPS has a car with cameras scanning plates too.

They have had them for a while,

as long as they can't check for validity of insurance I'm good! ;)

Haven't seen one in person yet. But nice!

TPS has had them on their traffic cars for a long time. There was a special on it on the news. They also have radar that can detect speeding cars in all directions around the car.

I saw them cruising through the timmies at Kennedy Commons a month or two ago. Driving slowly, they had at least 4 cameras from what I could tell.

They stopped and asked a guy sitting on his motorcycle if he had insurance. He said he just switched companies and produced his pink slip, and the cops went on their way. Not sure how they're able to check that ish!
