New new driver license?

So I just got a new driver license in the mail, about 3 weeks after doing my M1. I know that with M1 you normally only get the piece of paper so I'm not sure why I got this license. Only thing is I already had one of those new style licenses and this newer one I got is the exact same except missing the magnetic stripe. Anyone else get one of these? I'm not sure if I should just keep this one or my older one as they are still a number of years until expiring...

Just looks a little strange missing the magnetic stripe.
 
Pretty sure documentation that comes with all new licenses tell you to destroy the previous one. Read it?
 
I have received a new one without the magnetic strip as well. When I was pulled over for a warning, the officer just sighed and said "another thing to make it more complicated for us", referring to the fact that he can't swipe my license in his computer, he has to type out the DL number now by hand.

Make sure you don't drive around with both licenses though, that's a big no-no and if he/she sees the second one, you'll get a big ticket.
I cut mine up in 4 with scissors and also passed it through my paper shredder afterwards (the older of the two).
 
When my wallet was stolen (it was in the wifey's purse, we had all of our important documents in it since we had just gotten back from vacation) the only way I could get fresh ID was by using an expired license I had kept kicking around in a drawer.

Without that expired license I would've had to go through a very drawn out process of proving my identity... tons of paper work, having to get family members/friends to vouch for me-- a general PITA.

Keep both, leave one in a safe place and carry the other on you.
 
I was pulled over once, and the officer saw 2 licenses in my wallet. He just took my old license and told me not to carry two.
 
Same thing happened to me when I got my M1 last year. It had the stripe though. I had to redo my M1 this year to upgrade to my M2 and got a new liscense after I got my M2. Gotta double check if it has a stripe or not. I've actually have several unexpired liscenses at home, lol. One with my parents address (never bothered to change it when I moved out years ago)Another one when I got my M1 (still with my parents address, lol)Moved again, actually changed my address, so another new oneImmediately after getting new address liscense, lost my wallet and got a replacement oneGot my wallet back 3 months later with old license in itNew one now that I have my M2So I have 5 unexpired licenses total, lol. Just checked my License... (got it in the mail about 1 month ago...)

it has a no magnetic strip, but does have a scanable barcode...

never even noticed the no magnetic strip till this thread...
 
I called the MTO when this happened to me last year. Their response? "Whenever your license information changes, a new card will be sent to you". So, if you already have a license (I had my G), then you get a new one with your M1 (no matter how short-lived), and then they send you another when you get your M2. Can't wait to receive a third when I get my M.

For the record, I would never hold on to too many of those cards. Photo ID is a "powerful" tool for thieves. Destroy the old one.

As for the lack or presence of the magnetic strip, I have no idea.
