A buddy of mine ( who is also on this forum) opened up a motorcycle gear store in Oshawa. He is located right beside precision cycle.

He sells pre owned powersports apparel, and if you have extra gear lying around he can turn it into cash for you.

Check out his site at www.re-gear.ca

His name is Alex and his name on the board is "megatorque"

Check it out folks ..

That actually is a very cool idea. I wish him all the best !!!

So I don't have to advertise all my good, used gear on Kijiji anymore and deal with all the morons?

Great idea.

So it's like consignment motorcycle store? Good idea but where would he get all his products? I wish he was a bit closer to the west.

Thanks Chris for starting the conversation on GTAM, much appreciated!

I will try to quickly address the few questions/comments posted:

So far the concept of a store where people can bring in the gear they are not using and have someone else take care of the entire sales process has been very well received, only been open two weeks but we have helped many people out, both Sellers and Buyers.

I found people have busy lives and it is not convenient for many to sell their items private on Kijiji and Craigslist but of course the GTAM foum does not fall under the same category AS IT IS AWESOME!

No doubt we face some challenges in keeping the store inventory high as I can not rely on suppliers to fill up the store but so far so good. In the short bit of time we have been open it has been a good balance of incoming and outgoing goods.

Open Sundays - Unfortunately that is my only day off so I try to be out riding!

Thanks

Alex

Question -- So if he takes care of all the sales, what is his cut on the final sale (percentage wise)? I might be getting rid of a few things in the coming months, but I wouldn't want to give up much more than 5-10% for someone else to handle it.

EDIT: Just saw on the website they take 50% -- kinda steep for me unless craigslist/kijiji doesn't generate enough interest on an item.

Have you tried selling stuff on kijiji?

the website says it's 50%... i personally think it's too high

Before I settled on a % of the sale I did some market research and found the Consignment stores that deal in pre-owned clothing take 60% of the sale price and give the owner of the goods 40%

I also looked into Play It Again Sports and they are a 50/50 split which is what we decided on.

That being said anyone who has or currently operates a business knows that our margin is not 50% when you factor insurances, licencing, credit card/bank fees etc.

At his point with a new business, wages do not even factor into the mix as I am looking to cover operating costs while the business grows.

Great idea. I might be stopping by with some items.

Who determines how much the item should sell for ? Do you have the final say , or do you have a range in which both the seller and yourself agree on ?
