New Klim Airbag Vest for $400 +$399 or $12/month for it to work

The In&Motion lasts 25 hours of riding between charges, and Astars says 30 hours. That's 3-5 days of non-Iron Butt riding, lots of time to remember to plug it in for a few hours.
All good until you're rough camping with no plug

Well, for me, I haven't rough camped for more than two or three nights in a row since my early twenties, so it's not a big deal that way.

Still, if I were, a 20000 mAh power bank is $40 at Best Buy, so I'm sure you could at least triple if not quadruple the road hours that way. You can't plug in while riding with it turned on, unfortunately, but 90-120 hours of saddle time between receptacles would be more than enough to cover any tour I have ambitions to do.

Realistically, if I did plan to do lots of distance without plugging in, then the tether options would obviously be a lot more appealing. As it stands, they cost as much (or near enough) for reduced functionality...

Assuming you sleep sometime and aren't doing 48 hours in the saddle without a break, just charge the USB powerpack while riding and use the powerpack to charge the vest while sleeping. Lather, rinse and repeat and there should be no limit to the length of journey.

ok problem solved

Haha, makes a lot more sense than my plan. If I plan that overland route to Patagonia, I'll know what to get. My Tuono only has one USB outlet that I use for my phone, and I wasn't thinking much beyond that...

100$ air bag? Didn't you guys see the video of the guy cutting the resivoir shock apart?

It could just be an inflatable lifejacket with slightly different packaging. Tether activation so that should be reasonably consistent. Whether the cartridge is big enough to inflate the vest to sufficient pressure is a big question. If you don't have the money for the big boys or want a spare for a passenger, I doubt it would make injuries worse (or go off while riding). If they had one with a brain box, I would never wear it as it could easily cause a crash.

It’s like selling nuclear bomb shelters…if it’s crap and never designed to work properly no one is going to be around to complain and demand their money back.

Ended up with a Hit-Air. Haven't tried it yet, hope I never will.

Reminds me of folks who buy cheapo brake discs off Alibaba, then wonder why they end up in a ditch (or worse) when the front locks after the cutlery-quality steel discs warp. Airbags inflate with violence, I'd expect those would at best do very little, and at worst do more harm than good...

I received the Tech-Air 5 vest last week from FC-Moto, and it took just five days to arrive from Germany (via DHL and Canada Post) with a pair of TCX boots, and I wasn't asked to pay a penny in tax, duty or brokerage. Inexplicable.

It's surprisingly comfortable, and once on, sits very nicely. It flows air better than expected, too, though is definitely a warmer layer than the Held back protector vest I usually wear. The only minor niggle is the plastic bit at the top of the back protector that covers the argon cylinders is a bit of a hump, so it pushes the neck of my leather jacket up a tiny bit. Definitely no big deal, and I got used to it pretty quickly. Build quality seems excellent so far.

The app works well, at least once I figured out the phone needs to be really close (within a foot or so) to the vest to pair. The updated firmware included adding a track mode, and the ride tracking is interesting briefly, but doesn't offer any data besides speed.

So far, so good. I'm naturally hoping I don't ever have to test it, but if I do, I'm hoping I'll still be as positive. What really swung me was all the stories from folks online about how well theirs worked in a crash. Troy Siahaan from Motorcycle.com in particular had a good experience with his...
