New Ducati on the way ?

Interesting
Wouldnt count on it being particularly affordable, considering their current testa engine in the supersport is 20k+
but it would be nice to be surprised

It doesn't feel like the Monster 696 was that long ago to me. It was "affordable"

I don't know how much I trust RideApart (at least this article). A couple other articles I read both say it could be a smaller V4, which makes way more sense from a manufacturing perspective to share a single chassis and single motor (with two capacities) like they've done for ages with the 916/748, 999,749, 1x98/848. Using the 939 Testastretta seems like going backwards - and besides, which frame would they use?

As a current owner of the 937 SS. I find that the torque is more important than HP for evetyday street use. I think the curent model does a good job of balancing comfort and sport. There is always room for improvement. But going down to a smaller engine with potentially more power but less useable torque may be a step backwards. Seriously how many riders actually use these bikes on a track ? So not sure if Ducati is considering this.

Bump.

So I believe this is the new engine that the article was hinting at:

890cc, lighter-weight engine, variable valve timing.

The output numbers correspond roughly to an upgrade path for the current Testastretta 11° engine, making about 10hp more, which a lot of folks think this will make its way into the Monster, Supersport, Hyper and DesertX. Perhaps this may be an eventuality, but I think the focus on Euro 5+ compliance and compact size means it might show up first inside a high-output version of the Scrambler - the 1100cc version of which was recently discontinued.

Edit: And of course, in the "Project 2102" bike - whatever 2025 model they're coming out with to be their more affordable sportbike in their lineup.

I still maintain this engine is not a Panigale V2 Superquadro replacement. So so down on power...

Less than a week to find out:

5 November 2024, 16.00 CET: Extended Experience

Explore the next models to be presented during the Ducati World Première that have the new V2 twin as their beating heart.

Eeenteresting.

So I bet the "Extended Experience" might be the new V2 Sportbike
And "Unlock Everyday Adventure" might be the 1100 Scrambler replacement?

Do not like
Ha! Had written a longer post about how I felt this way about every Ducati sportbike post-999, but then realised I just sounded like an old man shouting at clouds. I think, like music, one's taste mostly solidifies as you pass 30, and the only new stuff you like after that is stuff that reminds you of the old stuff you already like.

e.g. I don't think there's a modern sportbike that looks a patch on any of my favourites:

1. RC30
2. ZX-7R
3. RC51
4. 916/996/998
5. 1st gen RSV4
6. last-gen RSV1000R
7. 1st gen R1
8. CBR900RR
9. MV Agusta F4 1000
10. 1st gen ZX-10R

I suspect, looking at that list, that it would be possible to work out my age with some degree of accuracy...

We are the same age

This is a regular VVT engine, more like a Honda than a Ducati.

What is this? Goodbye Desmo?

Yep, Desmo is gone on this engine ... seems the way Ducati is moving as I'm sure people are fed up with doing valve jobs every 12k ... right @mimico_polak ?
