My idea of a scrambler goes back to a discussion with an uncle who was a mechanic in WWII. He went ashore early in the game to convert the vehicles to use on land.
He commented that the big bikes were more popular later on but in the beginning the dispatch riders preferred the light weight ones like the Famous James. If you came under fire you could head for a ditch and when things cooled down a bit, pull it out by yourself, something not possible with the HDs and Indians.
