New bike!

Hey everyone! Very pumped about this, so wanted to share, picked up a 2019 SV650X this morning. The X version is very different from a regular sv - much more aggressive riding position, so will take some getting used to coming from the cb500.

But it looks absolutely fantastic and can't wait to take it out!

Hey nice bike, what did you do with the 500?

congrats, the SV is a great bike.

Congrats on the new bike. I loved my SV650. Never even knew there was another version "X"
Best wishes to your GF for her adventure in licensing.

Thanks! had a brand new 2008 SV650 back in the day - loved it. The X has clip-ons and forces you to lean forward. As far as I know, that's basically the only difference besides looks.

congrats, good choice - the SV 650 is a great bike!
(you may have to swap those bars if you do longer rides)

@Jay Alexander Congrats!!! I've got the 2019 SV (not X). Absolutely love it. The front brakes on 2019+ are a solid improvement over previous years. I think the only other difference from standard SV, aside from visuals and clip-ons, are the preload adjusters on the front forks - standard SV doesn't have those. Your footpegs seem to be aftermarket, offset towards the rear - I'd expect that to feel more natural with clip-ons than stock peg position which is a better match for the standard (bonus points if you have big feet). SVrider is a great resource if you're not on there already.

Thank you! Didn't know the X only had the preload suspension. The footpegs were added by previous owner who needed more leg room. I plan on getting bar-end mirrors, fender eliminator, replacing the ugly out-of-place brake reservoir (is this something we can even do?). I'm considering replacing the bars, cause I don't know if I can handle leaned over so much all the time.

@Jay Alexander - if you decide to go with handlebars over clip-ons then switching to the standard front master setup would make sense - but then you'd need the standard top triple with the handlebar seat and likely longer cables. With clip-ons, personally I think you're better off with current front master setup - I have clip-ons with the standard setup on mine and it's inconvenient to top up brake fluid with the angled reservoir (see pic). If you feel the clip-ons are too low after riding a while, maybe look into clip-on risers up to a height that the stock cables still function safely - easy fix. If you go the complete handlebar swap route, shoot me a message - I may be interested in a parts swap - my stock handlebars are here collecting dust.
