Never buying OEM oil filter again!

Just got back from the dealer after picking up some parts so I can do an oil change this weekend!
oil filter................$14.29
drain plug washer..$1.56
large o-ring..........$5.98
small o-ring..........$2.36
enviro fee............$0.50
taxes..................$3.21

The feeling that I got raped by the dealer...... priceless!!!

And that doesn't include oil...AND it doesn't include the costs if they were to do the oil change themselves!

It cost me $27.90 and i feel like ****, I can't image what people feel like when they get their service done at the dealer...

What are those o rings for? seems useless to me

What kind of bike are you riding?
All I get is the filter and the drain plug washer not sure what those o-rings are for.
If you're talking about the oil filter gasket, that usually comes standard with the filter.

It's for a ninja 250r. They don't use spin on filters, but rather cardridge type filters. The big o-ring can be seen at the bottom of the assembly, the small o-ring wraps around the bolt.

And you haven't even bought your oil in the list on original post.

Eight bucks for the o-rings? Something doesn't make sense here, I get my stuff from Kahuna all the time and I've never paid that much...

Looks like a Ninja 250 08+.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it; large o-ring..........$5.98?!?! WHAT?!

Next time just buy the K&N oil filter (KN-401) for around $10 (which includes both O-rings) so all you need now is the drain plug washer (from partsource) and OIL (Amsoil 10W40 oil from http://www.pascosynthetics.com/compare.html - AMAZING price & service).

I purchased a few oil filters from RidersChoice (on Dundas and Dixie - be sure to call ahead of time) though I've had TERRIBLE experience with them, but when the price is right, it's worth it.

I didn't get it from Kahuna, I got it at Bob's Cycle in Cornwall. What's worse is that I could have sworn that the o-rings came with the filter when I bought them in Kingston.

the orings should com with the filter. have you opened the box and looked?

I looked in the box to make sure they were there, and when I noticed they weren't, asked whether they had taken them out or something.
She then told me they were sold separately and asked if I wanted them.
Once she gave me the new total, I couldn't believe what she had just told me! Live and learn!
At least I noticed at the store and not midway through an oil change. That would have ticked me off big time!!

Depending on the bike it might require a bunch of washers and gaskets when you change the oil.

I have a cartridge filter and a spin on. The my cartridge housing requires a gasket maybe you have an o-ring. Then I need three washers, two for the oil drain bolts and one for the frame oil bolt. The reason you replace those washers is so you don't have the "OMG I stripped my oil pan posts"

Yikes... thats expensive... I pay like $10-14 for my K&N Filter and that includes everything i need for the oil change... I change the washer after like 5 oil changes and even then its only a couple bucks for more then i can use.

seriously. you should check the box and instructions to see if there is any mention of the o-rings. i have never heard of this. i suspect the company removed and resold the rings

Just buy a bunch of everything you need in bulk from the US. Filters seem to be cheaper down there. I ordered a bunch from Amazon.com.

No mention of o-rings on the box. However, it reads "Oil Filter ASSY", so I made the comment at the shop about it being weird that assembly only means the filter... :confused1:

Never changed an o-ring yet on any of my vehicule for the oil drain bolt....and my bike has 42 000km....my car 140 000km, nothing is dripping.

Its to avoid oil leak....even with a washer you can still stripped you oil pan.

In my experience, I found that as the washer degrades I need to apply more and more torque to avoid leaks. If it'a a new washer I barely torque it.

The microfiche shows them as separate parts. Maybe the aftermarket ones come with the o-ring

It is normal for the OEM Kawasaki cartridge filter to not include the o-rings, they are stocked seperately.
