Netflix on PS3 is triggering reset on my Router???

I just googled and found that... people are starting to post up. Looks like it was an update-related issue.

Anyway, looking forward to using my Linksys when I get home. The very last poster has the exact D-Link router I had.

I am having the exact same problem with the exact same series of events;

Series of events

1. Start PS3
2. Logs onto PSN
3. Start Netflix *red screen*
4. Netflix selection screen appears, boxes are blank with no pictures
5. Immediate router reboot
6. Everyone loses internet connection
7. Weeping begins

I also have an older D-link router which has worked just fine for me until this problem began yesterday. I can access Netflix on my laptop, and on the Wii, and I can also play my PS3 online just fine, but loading Netfix continues to fail and then reboot my router. For what it's worth, I also use MAC addresses for security. I am definitely interested to know if changing routers solves the problem so I will check back again later.

created this account here just to reply - I have THE EXACT issue - started last night, repeated today.
pulled hair trying to solve.

To be clear - Netflix works on all other systems, iPads, etc… but try it on the PS3 and my Sympatico DSL modem drops the whole house internet connection and needs to be reset.

~6 year old D-Link Router must be to blame… damn it - I hate having to change gear that I never touch and is working fine.
I will check back to see if there are any other ideas before I get into sorting out a new router.

DI-524 unfortunately isn't supported by DDWRT. I found linksys routers have a lot of problems with original rom, ddwrt not only fixes them but it makes them the best home router out there.

Right after Tomato

Solved.

New router works great. Better speeds than my old one (I'm signed up for Teksavvy 6mbps and the PS3, right beside it, tested at 8mbps lol). And range is great too.

So, seriously, this is the only fix?
Does anyone understand what changed? like why did it all of a sudden destroy our routers? I don;t remember a software update recently - was it some sort of remote change with the way PS3 handles Netflix?

Since we're on the topic of routers, I've heard very good things about the Asus RT-AC66U and the N version RT-N56U.
If you want rock solid stability at a consumer price I've heard the Microtik RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN is the way to go. I'm trying to decide between these right now.

Exact same problem we have been having for two wwks

Lame... still no explanation as to why, but must have been some server change or something.

No lags or delays with the new router. Works surprisingly better than I thought, I should have upgraded along time ago :P - glad I spent the extra $20-$30 for a dual band router

Dual band probably had nothing to do with it, especially when there's distance/obstacles involved. 5GHz performs poorly under those circumstances. Probably a better 2.4GHz radio and maybe a channel change :)

Problem seems to have resolved itself..??
I didn't have the time/energy/money to go replace my perfectly functional old lynksis router combined with apple airport express that has been working fine for years…
So i gave up on netflix for a week or so… tired it today, it crashed the network as expected… I didn't rest the router and just had dinner… 30 mins later i noticed we were online even with out a router reset, so I tried netflix again and it worked! picked a raondom movie and watched some to confirm. it was clean hi res and fast… who the hell knows why these things happen… her's hoping it stays fixed.

these issues are hard to trace, generally solved by either a firmware upgrade or by loading on 3rd party firmware like tomato, or my preference dd-wrt. Both are available online, you will void your warranty, but very worthwhile IMO, the firmware is solid. It opens up the option of cron jobs, keep-alive polling, with a whole host of other options. Check it out if your interested
