Hi

Can anyone recommend a place (or person) that can re-upholster my seat?

Looking to make it more comfortable on longer rides.

Foam is too stiff and it's angle is slightly off for my comfort.

Thanks in advance.

Curt at Curt Customs(9.853.7267),Holland Landing re-did my seat a little stiffer padding and at a different slope,,I gave him an extra seat to compare profiles nice job.Tell Curt,Chris sent ya..

Just do it yourself its not that hard plus you save some bucks.

vinyl and foam can be picked up at fabricland...

and a staple gun at a local Walmart

do not buy any foam at a retailer. They sell the entry level quality and it will break down in the first five minutes of a ride. Overall life is about 3 weeks if you use your bike regularly.

Yeah, I sell foam for a living and know my jam on this topic. You can do it yourself if you have some skill and patience but if you want a quality job done then a pro is the way to go. I would try Zsolt of E.D. Motorcycle seat. He knows how to build them and he knows how to listen to your needs. He has years of custom experience.

If you want to try to take it on yourself, PM me I will help you out with the foam.

Thanks JZ for spreading knowledge... yeah i don't know much about foam. I replaced the vinyl on my passenger seat with vinyl from FLand. still in great condition since Aug 2010.

Fabric is one thing, you can buy good/better/best but with foam, people don't understand it so they don't know what to offer, ergo, the cheapest offering.

You are right though, this is a job you can do yourself. In the OP's situation you can often reuse the original seat fabric just pull a bit more before throwing a staple in it.

Thanks for the input

I still haven't got in touch with Curtwood Custom seats

and now I need to look into E.D. Motorcycle Seat Inc (nice you tube video)

I would be willing to try it myself, but we're at the beginning of the riding season and if I totally screw it up...I'll be out of a seat.

There isn't much out there for my bike (07" Suzuki GS500F)

Corbin is only for 2000 and older GS500's

Russel has some nice seats... but nothing for the GS

Baldwin has nice stuff too... but nothing for the GS

Here are some seats...but they are across the pond, too far.

GS500 wiki is weak on the subject

did you look at this place if you want to just get the cover

http://stores.ebay.com/Pit-Replica

and if you don't find it on their site, send them an email, response is quick

sorry the above is just to get a cover, I see your looking at modifying the seat, the place below would probably a bit better

or if you want someone to do it all try this place

http://www.alphaautotrimltd.com/

Going to be getting mine done soon at Ye Old Saddle Shop. http://saddleshoppe.com/ Went in for a meeting with MeHi and we discused what I wanted and how he would fix my seat for me and try out different density's of foam to figure out what works for me.

I just did my first seat re-upholstery. It was just the seat cover on my mx bike, and honestly it was nothing complicated, just took a bit of time. Make sure you have a good staple gun and go for it.

Wont know til May. Got a ticket with a number and he's pretty busy. Might as well make an appointment and get a ticket, then when I get mine done I'll let you know what I think.

I know a guy named Len in Newmarket who does fabulous work - will do a gel seat for you for a great price. PM me and I'll get his contact info to you.

I have been using for two years camping Zotefoams foam sleeping pad on top of my seat and it makes my seat very comfortable. It's very durable, and it has a nice hold without bottoming out. You can get them at MEC in various thicknesses and sizes.

I want to install that foam in my seat. What's a good vinyl to use?

What's the going price for a reupholstery job? Say install gel pad, new foam, reshape and recover with new material.

Good luck with your ticket. I got one in October and never received a call, even after several unsuccessful attempts to contact him. The guy talks a good game but delivered nothing. Next time I'm going to Alpha.

I had the same problem, went in November, got a ticket. No phone call, then went to his house and did not remember me from a hole in the ground. Said he would call soon but nothing. Really happy I went to Alpha.

Woops thought I replied to retro. Stupid phone. Can I get some info on Alpha? Would hate to wait all season for a call that isn't coming.
