Need information for a carburetor for an sv650

Is it at all possible to replace a carburetor without a crank tool that opens the covering or do i need that tool? I have a complete repair guide but I'm not sure how to get the carburetor open.

If it's not possible to fix it without the tools are there any mechanics or shops in and around the gta that wont make me sell a kidney to replace an Sv650 Carburetor? I have no issues finding a cheap part but the labor will cost more then 4 or 5 carburetors.

I'm in need of a genius or someone who knows a bike mechanic/repair god.

Thanks,

Shawna

It was hooked up to a voltage meter and losing voltage while the bike is running and not charging it. Also this has been getting progressive worse over time.

Carburetor? Do you mean the stator? The carburetor doesn't have anything to do with it losing voltage and not charging!

You must mean the stator or the rectifier. Check your service manual for the test procedures on those, you'll need a good multimeter (to measure resistance).

... I think you mean stator. And yes, you shouldn't need any "special" tools to replace it.

Edit: damn, beat me to it.

Sorry i meant alternator i don't know what i was thinking carburetor for hahaha sorry blonde moment. I was measuring the batteries voltage and how it kept dropping as the bike ran longer and longer. This is the second battery i replaced thinking it was a battery problem.

Well to replace a stator i know this would be around $150 bucks for the part. I'm guessing the difficulty of replacing this will take me all summer looking at this manual I don't feel so confident. Do you know any shops or mechanics who could replace this for an honest amount so i can keep my kidneys?

Ted at Rosey Toes would probably be your cheapest option.

I was told to open her up i'd need some "special tool" that would pull off the metal covering. Does this make any sense or am i just getting bad information?

If you could send me Ted's information so i could give me a call that would be great. Where is he located?

To change the stator on my 08 R6 I needed large torx bits, and they were red locktite'd so that wasn't much fun. No special tools for me, but I have no idea on your SV, sorry.

What year SV is it, and I'll see if I got the service manual for it :)

It's a 2005. I have the complete service manual but I've never replaced a stator before or know anyone who can help me. I have to double check to see if i have a large torx bit but if not i could find one pretty easily.

Thanks for his contact info. I'll have to give him a call when I'm off work to get a quote.

You will need a fly wheel puller to remove the fly wheel off the crank case. The stator is attached to the engine case cover.

Its better to test components on the charging system instead of replacing random components. The odds that the stator or 'generator' aka. the fly wheel generator going bad is very slim.

Suzuki are known to have charging system issues, they'r straight forward to sort out if you know what your looking for. Solved a ton of these charging related issues with suzuki's in the past.

ok well i don't have a fly wheel puller :(

So they are known for charging system issues but what usually cause them if it's not the battery or voltage regulator or stator? I got 11.9 volts when running between 400-500 rpm when the manual says i should be at 13.5/14 volts. I need to put the battery maintainer on after running it for a short while or the bike wont start later.

oh the regular / rectifier first is already replaced..2 days ago ..waste of money :(
