Need Advice: Seat Solution For Touring On Sportbike

I did a long trip last year including some days with 12+hrs in the saddle, and want to do more trips, but the stock seat on an SV650s is honestly a pain in the rear. There's really no way to sugarcoat it, that seat is singlehandedly the WORST part of the entire bike IMHO.

I've been doing my homework and know there are 3 main options:
1- Buy an entirely new seat (Corbin, custom, etc...)
2- Bead seats (BeadRider, etc...) - Funny thing though. It seems if you use the wrong keywords in google when looking for this, it sends you to an entirely different kind of beads for your butt, heh
3- An air-based seat pad (AirHawk, etc...)

My problem is that for each option, there are people who swear by it and others who say it was crap and they had to get something else. I really don't want to waste my money buying more than one (especially something as expensive as a Corbin), so I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to increase my changes of getting it right the first time out. I'm sure some of you guys/gals have had the same problem as I'm facing.

Do any stores let you try and return? Do I find someone to lend me one for a day?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

OMG seat so comfy!!!

Memory foam + gel = WIN!

That's a Saddlemen Tech seat. See if they make one for your bike. (bought from Riders Choice on ebay)

If you wanna try it come out for one of my rides and we'll swap bikes for the ride, might not be a similar seat to your SV obviously but will give ya an idea at least.

they make a custom gel seat for sv650 I have one as does a few friends can't be beat

I went with a Corbin for my Trophy. Great, and still good after 6 years. The Ducati seat is done after two years, so I have to decide Corbin or Ducati "comfort" seat.

Try the Beadrider first - it's cheap and easy to sell if it doesn't work for you but there are lots of us it does and I've even got a Russell Daylong and it improves even that.
Was heaven on the ST1100
can't say on the sports bike tho

The Corbin's do take a long time to break in to get really comfortable. If I recall, it may have been close to a year (5-7K of riding)

got a sargeant seat on my sv1000s. Couldn't ride anywhere without it. Pretty sure they fit both the 1000 and the 650.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. This is more than expected!

Seems like the best option is to start with some really cheap options like bike shorts and work up as needed with other options that can be used together. I get the impression that I could use bike shorts on top of a bead rider, on top of a Corbin/Sargeant/Russel if push came to shove. I know that would be overkill but the point is that it's not just A or B, that they can be used together.

Jamie, thanks for the really generous offer of letting me try your bike! As much as I'd be honoured to take your beast for a spin, I checked and they don't make that seat for my bike.

Yes they can - I have a Sargent on the KLR650 in Aus and don't need anything else for long days.
The Beadrider was a must have on the ST1100 and I think the main advantage is breathing and less you squirm around easily.
I'm going to Spain for three weeks later in May - you are welcome to borrow the bead rider tho it might be big for your bike - it's 14x14
It's weird as it feels too hard when you get on it and you figure it's gonna hurt over time - but it doesn't.
The Sergant is very good - I was surprised - I bought mainly to lower the KLR a bit so I could use the bead rider but turned out I did not need it.

I've heard very good things about the Corbin and the DayLong is just superb but $$
Worth the effort to get it right. Sometimes 1" risers can shift your riding position nicely as well - the 1" up and back on the St1100 made a big difference for cheap.

Oh damn, that sucks :( After getting spanked by a SV650s on the track I've always wanted to take one for a rip, so the offer is still open, if you wanna come for one of my rides we can swap swap :)

I'm going to try one of the Saddlemen Extra large 0810-0520 - see how it does on the Burgman and maybe the ST1100 as I left mine with riding buddy in Aus.

Looks good. Should fit perfect on the Daylong.

I like memory foam....might work for kid too and he's too broke for the Corbin.

Re: CanadianTire seat cushion:
Is that thing OK for outdoor use? I'm thinking, if it rains... what do you do with it?

You can just send your seat to them and get them to redo it :)
