Need advice ASAP!!! would you.....

ya, as i recall the dealer semi-exposed it after the first test drive. Or once i requested a car-proof.

If he had disclosed AFTER the deposit, thats just shady, and I would be gone by now

I dont know what to do.............

Did he write on the bill of sale that the car had a claim?

I have sold many cars that have had some sort of claim, some were 600$ others were in the thousands like yours.

As zx600 said, it doesn't take much for the 12k to add up, especially on a brand new vehicle.

If you had the car checked out independently of where you are buying it and all is straight and true except for shoddy paint, go for it. Sounds like you want it, just realize resale may or may not be there depending on the deal you get.

I've knowingly overpaid for a couple cars just because I wanted them. Cars / bikes are more of an emotional experience to me than a rational one.

2003 MINI Cooper S. new paint and bumper (plus a few misc. pieces in the area) was only 1400$. Even if I had to replace the light(s) they were 1100$ each.

12k seems like quite the accident to me.

I'd walk away. I would feel bad to, but it's you that loses, not the dealer. Also, call me what you will, but I NEVER leave a deposit unless I want them to hold it for me. Me sitting n the chair talking to you is me being serious, if you're not taking me serious and demand a deposit I WILL walk away.

Is it possible to look up the repair order to see what exactly was fixed and replaced?

A friend of mine with an A4 had a lady turn in front of him. Two fenders, hood, bumper, both headlights ($1700 each), fog lights, and two airbags etc plus labour and paint was $14G. Purely cosmetic damage. Those repairs can get expensive pretty quickly.

based on the price considering the accident I don't think it's a good deal. Especially if u take in account u would like to sell, u gonna lose big then.

Heheh the second link IS the car in question here. It is a good deal for this coupe with the same kms and options

I have to call the dealer today with my decision....o god

I recently bought a car (in December) the seller dicked me around a bunch, but I became infatuated with this car. I had blinders on. I got a great deal on my VW, but now that the novelty has worn off some, all I see is the imperfections to the body, and paint.... It's driving me crazy. The body is getting redone in the spring because I can't stand looking at it. Don't know if this helps, but I probably wouldn't make the same decision again. I'd walk. And get something that was in better shape.

That infiniti is a great car. $12k in damages isn't really that much, but like someone mentioned, the sub par paint job is a reflection of their worksmanship.

Personally, my car (impreza) has gone through a few minor accidents, 2 rear ends ($6k repair each time), 2 cars backing into it, etc. The car so far drives the same as usual with no other issues. The paint job and buffing is always done very profesionally. In fact my car looks better than the second year I had it. Remember that if the work was done through insurance, everything will be OEM, and we all know how much OEM stuff costs, and on top of that, from a luxury car manufacturer.

Normally I would say it's ok since it's been checked over and is under warranty, but the paint job REALLY throws things off. It's a luxury car too, you would want to spend as much time with a great finish. The poor paint job could also mean that some pieces WEREN'T replaced but just fixed up and repainted. Again not always a bad thing, but is a factor that may mean something when everything seems to point to them cutting corners.

Negatives (IMHO)
Automatic
Shoddy workmanship on repair
Used car dealer uses all caps, has conflicting information (0% and 4.9% financing) and wants $700 for cert and e-test. I won't deal with used car dealers like that, all sorts of shady.

Positives
It's a nice looking car (never driven one so I can't comment on much else about your car choice)
You had it checked by an independent mechanic who thinks it's healthy.

Ultimately, it's up to you, listen to your gut. You are getting a good deal, but you will also have a car that will be a pain to sell if you aren't planning on driving it into the ground.

Insurance only pays for OEM parts if the car is 2 years old or less. After that they don't have to pay for all Oem parts

The paint job seems perfect to me. To the naked eye it looks great. The service guy at infiniti however showed me one spot where you can tell its been reprinted. But I wouldn't call it a bad paint job

Thanks for all the opinions. I know I will take a hit on the resale. But I do plan on driving this car for the next 5 years at least. By that point, resale won't be much anyways

I don't know. I think I will take the risk

Really? That doesn't seem right, dont' they have to restore your car to the condition it was in before the accident?

My car is over 3 years old but I still got all OEM parts replaced. In fact when I needed them to replace my rims, they were cheaper than OEM and they had no problem paying me out the money for the OEM rims even though they just had to replace the after market ones.

Not all insurance policies are created equally.
