I am about to purchase a 2010 Infiniti G37x coupe. I am getting a great deal on it, she only has 29,000kms on her. The only problem is there was an accident to the front corner, resulting in a $12,000 insurance claim

The owner purchased the vehicle in 2010, and 2 months after purchase this accident occured.

I have had the car checked out by mechanics at Infitiniti, and other than a subpar paint job, they say the car is good to go. Drives perfect etc....

Would you guys buy a car that has been in an accident before? I have a deposit down already and the car is almost ready for pickup, but im now getting cold feet

What should I do?

$12k insurance claim means the accident was no joke.

If the paint is sub-par, what makes you so sure the rest of the repair was not? A new bumper + paint is not anywhere close to $12k.

To me personally, I would rather pay the extra $$ upfront and buy a no stories car. This isn't exactly a honda civic/corolla, so any additional repairs will quickly eat into any "deal" you are getting.

Also ask yourself - why are you getting such a good deal? Someone is making money somewhere in the transaction.

If I'm spending that much cash on a car, it better be accident free with original paint.

Im an idiot. I put a deposit down already, wasted so much of the salemans time, took it for inspections, they have already started work on the car, and now the salesman is guilt tripping me hard

I dont know what to do?!?!?

I think the car will be fine, im just worried about my resale value down the road

Resale will be a hard hit since its an accident car.

Salesman is doing his job. And quite well it seems.

It might be a good car, but put aside some $$$ to fix any pending issues. No warranty I assume.

The car is still under Infiniti warranty until 2016 or 110,000kms for powertrain.......still one more year of full bumper to bumper Infiniti warranty

Did he write what on the bill of sale?

$12k doesn't take much to do. It's not like the car was anywhere near being a write off at that cost. For everyone who is scared of such things, go look up the price of the hid headlights and housings from the dealer. That's mega dollars right there. Bumper skin, rebar, fender damage. It all isn't a huge deal at that price. If it's been checked out and given the thumbs up by someone such as an Infiniti mechanic who's familiar with the brand then I wouldn't worry so much.

12000 - tax = approx 10,000

10,000 - labor cost = approx 5-6,000$

on a brand new 50,000 car, i imagine 5,000 in parts isnt that hard to mess up?

i dont know, this is killing me. I just dont want to be screwed when it comes time to sell the car in 4-5 years, thats my biggest concern i guess

want advice? stop listening to gtam

I had 7k of damage on my bike when i got hit from behind and it looked like nothing, 12k on a g37 is a couple of fenders and some lights, why don't you price out new some of the parts that got replaced/painted and you will see that 12k is nothing.

You put your deposit down, you had the car checked by infinity and a mechanic, they said go ahead...why are you listening to key board mechanics???

Sweet ride, enjoy it!

As ZX600 said don't listen to anyone on gtam...wait, wouldn't that also mean don't listen to him? :lmao:

Anyways how much did you put down?

And lemme share a story with you about my first ever car purchase. She was a beauty, looked and ran like a dream only problem was it was an accident car. I didn't know better and purchased it. I had so many problems over the years with it i could have purchased 2 brand new ones in the ends.

Your experience may vary, however i will NEVER, EVER purchase any vehicle that has been in an accident again. Since that mistake i have owned 2 more cars and both were non accident cars and ive had zero issues with them.

The shady paint job is a great sign of how the rest of the car was fixed in my opinion.

You're having cold feet because common sense in the end prevails. This is the reason why a car salesman never wants you to "think about it" and instead sign on the spot.

I put down a $500 deposit which i dont care about too much

May I ask what kind of car it was that you bought back then?

For 500 bucks id walk away. I spent more on towing my car around :lmao:

It was a camaro. I had everything from electrical problems that no one could quite figure out, to transmission, to rear end, and these were not common problems with that car.

Memories...

Above isnt my pic, just brings back memories :D

Did the salesman disclose of the accident prior to you giving a deposit? If not, and you want to back out of the sale, you may have grounds to get your deposit back. You could always get OMVIC's take. OMVIC, as you probably know, will help settle any disputes between you and the dealer, free of charge.

Hope it works out!

ya, as i recall the dealer semi-exposed it after the first test drive. Or once i requested a car-proof.

If he had disclosed AFTER the deposit, thats just shady, and I would be gone by now

I dont know what to do.............

As others have said the car could be A-ok or it could have issues all through its life.

You are the only one taking a gamble on this which means you are the only one who can lose.
If the car turns out to be A-ok and you own it for years and years with only the need to do regular maintenance on it, you win

In both scenarios, the dealer wins.
You know the saying right, the house always wins.

I personally would be leaning towards the walking away crowd but i'm also a sucker for good deals even though there's a risk. I know how you feel.

This. I put my last car through 2 claims, $23k and $8k respectively. Never had suspension/transmission/engine/frame etc. damage. Nuff said.

Calm down or you won't be able to enjoy the car at all cause you'll be looking for tiny imperfections.
