If you come across a bike and rider that has a flat tire, and the tire is worn down to the belts very obviously. What would you do?
Laugh at him and enjoy the rest of the ride home.
Go home, get your ramp and truck and get the poor fella home.
Or give him a ride to the next bus stop.

I've only encountered it once. The young guy said he always runs his tires like that, and he thinks he picked up a nail.I said toodle f'n loo and enjoyed the rest of the ride home.

Is that the kid with all the rubber burn-out marks in front of his house

Loan him my phone for one call.

I'd take out my puncture repair kit and pump (which is always on my bike) and try to repair it.

Different tires wear differently, most tires wear evenly from new and then get flatter and flatter in the center and it's obvious how long you can safely ride on it, but I've also had tires that look good with only minor flattening and then the belt makes its appearance out of nowhere and takes me by surprise. So I wouldn't get too finger-waggy at someone if their belt is visible. That said, if this guy says he always intentionally rides his tires until they look like that, then he probably deserves this. Good that it only stranded him instead of causing him to crash and get injured or possibly die. I now change all my tires as soon as the tread depth gets low even if it looks like it'll go another few thousand kms, but given the cost of tires (and the cost of tire changes if you can't do them yourself) I can understand why people, especially young people with not much money, might not do that.

What size tires are they? I can get cast offs.

I would offer *some* help... but the kind of person who intentionally rides their tires down to the cords will never accept it

You stopped, laughed at him, then drove away?!?
