Naked Sportbikes

A fly screen with a small lip can make a huge difference.

The Yamaha MT01 has surprisingly little wind buffeting, i think due to the high tank and large headlight.

You've ridden an MT-01?

Brother has one he bought last summer. Very different bike, it's really like nothing else. They were "overpriced" and didn't sell well, but the bike has quality components.
People don't like them because they have R1 parts, but a cruiser engine, so not a cruiser, not a sport naked (too heavy, almost 500lbs). But that engine runs at 2800 rpm highway and has zero maintenance, will likely run forever, and nothing but torque until ~3800rpm, then that's it. Shakes like a Harley.
Weird bike. It's as if Yamaha wanted to make a Buell. Yamaha tried to make it into a sports bike with these expensive stage kits and a rare Ohlins SP model, but it never caught on here, but they were popular in Europe.

Once I can afford a large stable (waiting for my Bre-X shares to vest) I think there would be room for an MT-01. I like it when manufacturers experiment, and I always thought the MT-01 looked cool. I would park it next to the Valkyrie Rune

I gave the MT-01 a try. It was a fun thing to ride, to be honest. Certainly not fast by sportbike standards, but you'd have to be awfully jaded to hate it.

I've never seen any of the stage kit versions, but the stage 2 akra is goofy loud. I think the rarest one is the sp with ohlins suspension.

Ninja 1000, best of both worlds. Upright comfortable riding position of a naked with legs protected (only an issue when its raining) and smooth air on the upper body with the windscreen in the lowest position. Middle position protects the chest & fairly clean on the helmet. Top is a little noisy, but directs air over the helmet. Good for longer higher speed slab runs, especially when the temps get into single digits. Puig screen looks much better and has better coverage and a small lip at the top. Much better than stock.

I owned two MT-01's over a four year period. First one was stock, sold it missed it and then one came up for sale full stage 2, carbon bits etc for $6000 so I couldn't pass it up. Was a ton of fun except for the always getting pulled over by the local fuzz for being too noisy, never actually got the accompanying ticket. Always have an eye open for the SP version but they are like hens teeth.

you can always just buy the SP parts from Yamaha.

True but I am a cheap prick so will only take advantage of someone else's big budget. The second MT01 I had, the owner had all the receipts for bike plus all the add-ons installed to the tune of $27000. Cost to me off Kijiji $7200 with 6000kms on bike. Traded 3 years later for $12000 worth of Jeep Wrangler. There is definitely another MT01 in my future
