My "new to me" 04 VFR800

I need to get a fender eliminator kit as well.

You don't need to buy one.. all you have to do is drill two holes in the original bracket and you've eliminated the fender and kept all your original holder/lights!

I'm by Square One, have a big garage, all the tools and know quite a bit about the VFR800.. message me if you have any questions!

I love these bikes.

I'm a fan of supersport styling, but UJM comfort/practicality. -> VFR = Win

Factory color theme, the 04's came in asphalt black, no labeling on front fairing :)

Yea, the rear is a 17 Metzeler Z6.

Nice. I'll keep an eye out for you in the east end..

congrats. :)

Very nice bike. Grats!

Nice bike - was thinking about one myself. Enlighten me - every VFR forum I read says best buy is pre-2001 (before VFR went VTEC).
Is that true or is it just VFR purist talk?

Nice bike! I'm not a fan of the latest model. Imo this is the best looking version of the VFR.

Personally, I'm not interested in carbureted sport touring bikes and that's what you get with 2001 and earlier. So I was looking for a 2002+ VFR800 (6th or 7th generation). What some don't like with the 2002+ models is the VTEC valve-actuation technology as it kicks in at 6,800RPM (6th generation) and can be rather abrupt if hammer it. This is something you'll get used to and come to love (or so I've heard). It kinda reminds me of the turbo band on Honda dirt bikes back in the day. As an example, when I was taking her home I ripped it in first gear and did an unexpected wheelie when all the values kicked it. BTW: The roar of this VTEC engine when she's firing on all values is AMAZING and hard to describe :) Let's just say, after 6,800RPM she's turns into a rocket ;)

+1 to everything Rodney said but there's a few differences from the 2002-2005 and 2006-2010 models.

The second group, 2006-2010, the changes were as follows:

- Vtec engagement was always 6800rpm and disengagement was 6600rpm. This was changed to 6400rpm engagement and 6100rpm disengagement. It's a lot smoother in the 2006+
- Upgraded wiring harness as some of the wires were too skinny and the connector would actually melt or burn through R/R's. However there was a recall for all previous years to fix this, so you can always get it fixed in prior models.
- Clear lenses all around.
- ABS is standard.
- Gradient tinted windscreen.
- Half white tach.

When Vtec kicks in, some either love it, like Rodney, and others hate it, like myself. This is why I bought a Power Commander V and now the transition is so seamless that you don't even notice it. The addition of the PCV really smooths out the bike and performs how it should have from the Honda factory.

On a side note, mine came with ABS and all the recalls were done on it :) I covered as many bases as I could before purchasing it. I still removed the front fairing to check for burn marks and other possible issues, but thankfully all ok.

98-01 is FI, anything before that is carb'd. In the 98-01 you also get the gear cams, which both sound nice and no cam chain to worry about adjusting :)

Nice bike! I really miss my VFR! I was surprised to hear you say that some people "love" it when the vtec kicks in. I don't know how that's possible. It's downright scary when your bike pauses in the middle of a tight pass on a two-lane highway.

Hoping to get a 2010+ when they finally come down in price. That 1200 motor is incredible.

Solution: Keep her above 7,000 RPM ;) Yea, I'd love to have the VFR1200, but I'm more than happy with the VFR800 for now. It's funny how we are always thinking about our next bike. LOL
