despite not having to prove the mental element of the crime, the crown must still prove the physical element in order to get a conviction. and the onus is on the crown to prove this element.
like rob said, defence can raise due diligence, and defence would have to prove that yes, you were in fact driving 50km over... but that you did all reasonable things. ie following a faulty speedo on a car that was just checked by a shop and verified as having a working speedo, and all other traffic on the road was going the same speed. you checked your speedo to make sure it works, you followed traffic... you did your due diligence.
so crown still has onus to prove guilt (act), you have responsibility to raise your own defence.
as for OP:
hope you find hte bastards that did it. I once had someone try to pull my arrow pipes off my bike. someone scared them off and left a note. they got the red loctite after that... though that might have just made them cut em off next time.
