My First Bike part 2

I did the same thing, bought an 02 gixxer, got insurance which was a bait and switch BS quote, was not worth cancellation due to 35% cancel fee, and luckily I had money saved for a long time, I paid out the insurance and said F it. With the price I paid for the bike and insurance, I could have bought a brand new Triumph street triple R. Which will be my next bike hopefully next season or two. Did I learn from my mistake..I certainly did. At the end of the day SS bikes are fun and all, but there ARE cooler, cheaper alternatives that will be just as fun. Am I happy riding my gixxer..ofcourse but I think I would have been happier on the street triple R.

Bro you're 21 freaking years old did you think insurance was gonna be cheap for a land rocket?? I'm more surprised that there was no one that told you to get insurance first.

You're gonna take a nice bath in it. At least you made the mistake at 21 rather then at 31.

For that kind of money you could buy something that is actually 'cool'. Cuz trust that bike is pure cheese....

Thats cool.... and guess what insurance would be??? probably a fourth of what you got quoted.

At 21 I could barely afford the 250R at 3K year, you on an SS.. *shakes head*. LOL, good luck with that EVER being cheap while under 25. Im 24 and paying 3K on my SS currently. No way you'll pay less.

Your definition of cool isn't the ONLY definition for cool, cool guy.

Good luck op

Yea there is, you just gotta know what bikes to look for. I'm younger than you, and pay a little more than 1/2 your premium on an 'SS' insured under my name.

Highly doubt unless you got a car + you're not in the city. No way you're younger and paying less for "full coverage". Liability is another story (poor man's insurance), but even that's not THAT cheap. And what bike to look for? Try something 2009+ and an SS and under 25. :)

I'm not talking about no 15 year old junky SS. Sure you can get a 15 year old SS with cheap insurance, but if you took my bike, you'd def not be payin half of 3K gauranteed. :p

He's probably talking about something sporty that isn't surcharged, such as a Ninja 650.

Sorry to hear your situation. Going back to what you stated. I was paying $72 per month for a 02 Yahama R6 with State Farm. I am 27 yrs old. Clean record with a multi-line discount. Good luck selling the bike though. Hopefully that bike does not have the tranny issue.

Did I touch a nerve or something? '02 SS built in '06, 21 years old. 600cc inline-4. $1750/year 1 way + specified perils. No discounts. Can't go wrong with that.

If you want to make an at-fault claim on a bike that's your problem, I value my car insurance more than the toy insurance.

Cheers.

How about you let me know where you got insurance so I can hitup some discounts also. :D It's not like I love paying 3200K a year for insurance.

Something doesn't seem right unless your "SS" is actually one of the sportier bikes that are not surcharged.

Bingo. But it's not a 'sportier' bike, it's an actual SS with a different name that doesn't get it surcharged.

Just be glad that the person at Jevco designing the SS surcharge list doesn't know that ;)

Oh I am. That's why I'm refraining from giving an exact name :)

@Adam: I saw you 2 days ago. What were you doing to your bike?

@vdk: Ha! You shoulda stopped and asked. hahaha. I started out doing chain maintenance. But seeing as though my rear hub sounded like a baby's rattle, I decided to do the prudent thing and take a looksie. WELL WELL WELL!! What did we find there? Axle bearing on the drive side with some balls hangin out. Them shouldn't be there. All fixed up. Not a job I loved doing though. Dirty and tedious. Cheers!

You're not gona find those easily on the roads or in shops back in 1994. You get the drift. Theirs always exceptions. :p

I think you're missing the drift bro. You don't need to buy a new SS bike to ride something impressive, which is generally why people just jump to the new SS bikes.

So you think they're not available? Check this deal out... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HOND...3551406?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item2311dcffae

And it took about 10 minutes to find it. Sure it's state-side. No problem. I've picked up a track bike from NJ and imported in a 24 hour time frame. So what up?

I would ride that for sure. And I am certain it would turn heads and get the comments. Go ahead. Check the insurance, newbers. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Now you just need to go get it. $1500 bucks? I might just go get this thing. hahaha.
