My daily rides are over

Meh...rush hour in Kingston is 5 cars moving slowly. Lots of bonuses living here. Big downside is tons of crumblies on the roads with erratic and slow driving habits and the moving in and out day for students when their misinformed parents try to drive the wrong way down all the one way streets.

Amazing roads nearby too. Just did a loop around Jones Falls and Chaffeys Locks on Battersea and then Opinicon Rd. Wonderful roads. Could do with resurfacing though.

Pretty sad that traffic or nutbar cagers would deter someone from riding.Sure if you are cruising at everybody else's speed.... ya you will be getting cut off.Try riding faster then traffic and you do the cutting off and dodging in and out of cars make it fun and interesting. See how many people you could get to honk at YOU for riding like a-hole and try to beat it each day.

Commuting on a bike is way better then in a cage. Ya'll are crazy lol. Enjoy the weather, don't stress over bad drivers... They won't change and are everywhere!

I am lucky that most of portion of my daily commute is on 407. I found out ppl on 407 are a little bit better than the drivers on other 400 series, driving wise. Daily commute makes me grow more familiar with m bike and on the weekend I can push her a little bit more. No way I will ride to downtown everyday though.

I'm so glad not to have a 9 - 5 job. I can ride into the big smoke and avoid the rush hours...........But, I have to say it's not that appealing to ride down. I live to ride when there is no purpose or destination and the roads less traveled. The 400 series highways are designed for mind numbing commuting to get from a to b. Listen to talk radio or take the odd conference call. If I was parked on the highway on my ride without my phone or tunes, it would just suck. I'd give up. lol

I did.

I commute down the 404/DVP to downtown. Sure, traffic sucks, but it would suck more if I was not on my bike. I cut my teeth riding downtown and am fine with it for the last 2+ decades. So far so good.

This is why i try to mix it up between bike and car. Too much of either makes me bleh.

Come to think of it i've never been on any 400 series highway on any bike i've ever owned. I don't i'd want to either. Outside of the gta - boring. Inside the gta = suicide.

Ditto. Avoid the 401 and 400 completely. Occasional 403 but never in prime time.

This year, I ride pretty much everyday to work downtown and am loving it. Not too far but enough to blow the sleep out my eyes. Downside, like today, is that CP24 could not predict the weather correctly if their life depended on it, so I was in the cage.

I'm in Kingston also on th east side (greenwood park). The only street I hate driving on is princess from bath down to the shoppers drug mart, and from there on queen st to the tim hortons/gas station at the bottom of the hill. Even with my sport touring the suspension takes a beating.

Since you got the better mileage now, why not find a route that may take a bit longer but is a lot more enjoyable?

tiger 1050 here...long travel suspension helps with the Kingston roads!

I ride for fun. Commuting on boring roads with crazy drivers isn't fun.
Now if filtering/lane splitting was legal then there would be a benefit to commuting on the bike.
But since there isn't just don't see the point. Try to limit my exposure to the distracted driver.

Not to mention unfiltered exhaust fumes in traffic...at least in the cage you've got a HEPA filter and A/C if needed.
Toronto stinks enough as is without sitting behind idling vehicles.
I don't envy anyone having to deal with a TO commute.
I can certainly see why it would put one off riding.

I get edgy every time I have to deal with Brampton - even off hours.

I had to ride through Toronto traffic last week.
The things you see are amazing.
I was riding behind a dude on a cruiser, traffic is moving at maybe 30 to 40kph. This dude pulls out the cell phone and checks his mesages while moving. With his right hand. Impressive. He did wobble back and forth all over the lane doing so but still impressive. Nevermind people in cars. People on bikes are just as bad. Commuting sucks.
I remember when I first started riding I was excited to just get on the bike. Now it's only when going out for a fun run or a road trip.

Yea, I agree with switching it up between TTC, caging, and riding for commuting, it helps me to keep my riding spirit up alot.

I love my bike. My passion. I will use any excuse to go for a ride. Or work called me after hours, better go down and see if thigns are ok (even if I know its Fine). Thankfully I work 7-3 so i avoid most traffic. DVP downtown in the morning, and side streets back, Although most of the time DVP is clear North until my exit. Literally just past my exit its a wall, only if i leave on time. Rain, no problem, throw a jacket overtop of the leather one, and have at (although i avoid the highway in wet conditions) The only thing that will stop me from rides is a mechanical problem, or no money for gas (which happens a few times :( ) those and winter.........for now, lol

I just bought a bike after 18 years of non-riding, and the primary reason is to commute. I have a perfect commute for a bike though....back roads from Brantford to Guelph every day, with little to no traffic. All 80 km/h roads until I get into Guelph, and I don't have to drive far into the city. I pick up my bike Thursday night, so I'm hoping for nice weather on Friday for my first commute!
