My computer needs a new carburetor

Or is it the fuel pump?

My ancient PC Windows 7 has been replaced by a Macbook but I still have some files on old faithful. Anything critical has been saved elsewhere so not a meltdown situation. However the old girl doesn't want to start up without giving me grief.

It's like an old car with fuel problems where the engine catches then dies. With the car you stomp repeatedly on the gas while cranking and once it starts all is well. Push the start button on the computer and it spools up for a few seconds and then dies.

I can't find a stomp pedal. There's no place to pour in Seafoam. The Luddite dipstick is acting the same as usual and is presently tapping on the keyboard.

Is this an easy fix for a Luddite (Duct tape, battery, WD-40) Norton 360 FWIW.

Macbook can run a bootcamp partition and you can run your old $%^& winOS on the Mac hardware.
you can even fix it after it gets a bunch of viruses, thats always entertaining.

If you can remove the Hard Drive hook it up to your rotten apple via a SATA to USB adapter.
Remove the files you need and use the rest as a paper weight.

If you don't feel like you will need a SATA to USB adapter for the long term and just want to borrow one, let me know. I have a few.

If you still want it running as a Win7 laptop, you will spend more time trying to tinker with it than a new install of Windows will take.

Provided that there are no hardware issues with the PC (bad RAM, bad HD etc) I would install a fresh copy of Windows (7 or 10 if drivers are available) and continue to use it as a garage PC to look up manual when working on the bike.

make a bootable USB stick with a light windows distro on it
boot the machine, find what you need on the C drive
and copy to another storage device

trying to resurrect the current windows install may cause you to lose everything

Using Duct tape, Tape up the laptop converting it completely on both side.
Using the hammer, pound on the laptop repeatedly,
save the other item for more important repairs.

I'd pull the drive and use something similar to oioioi suggestion (I have a toaster that basically does the same thing). I wouldn't bother to try to get windows running again unless the laptop was still good and I could repurpose it. Normally they get retired for a reason though. If I was trying to run something off a usb stick, I would probably run linux as there are many available that are simple to get running on a stick. Then copy the files off.

Linux on a USB stick is what we use to troubleshoot or recover. As long as the drive on the W7 PC is running, you can pull it to get the data using another machine or the USB Linux stick.

pour seafoam on it

like the guy who's bike won't start or roll
seafoam will fix it

Jump start it with your apple. Make sure the apple is running
Use one USB cable and one hdmi cable

Maybe it's too hot, put it in the freezer for a while then hit it with the jumper cables.

Pretty close. One of the dust bunnies died and the other sometimes tripped over its dead body on the squirrel cage and couldn't get it rolling. I added a pressure washer to the acceptable tool list and will see how that works.

While in there I was tempted to change the 2032 battery but didn't. They can be $5.00 each at mainline stores or $0.50 at the dollar store, usually Sunbeam brand. Are they really different or is it just labeling? No biggie it's a 5 minute job.

I normally go with theoretical namebrand from amazon for cheap. Test them all before you put them in. Many are DOA (counterfeit or just crap, who knows).
