So does anyone know what im looking at to fix this problem?
Unfortunately, this is one of the common issues with the 06/07 GSX-Rs 600/750's.
Before you replace it with an OEM unit, do a quick search on gixxer.com, there are aftermarket and relocation kits available so you won't run into this issue again.
Good luck.
BTW, what year and how many KM's do you have on your bike?

you are welcome op
If I'm not mistaken (possibly) I think the part that caught fire would be the regulator/rectifier, for some reason Suzuki thought it would be a good idea to put it right behind the radiator.
The Mosfet units are supposed to be better and they have relocation kits available as well.
You most likely have to change the stator and the battery as well...Does this fix the stator problem as well or is it a separate issue

Here's a link on a diy:

Hey gsxrgrl, I spoke to you yesterday on the phone as Daniel explained I had the same issue. I will reiderate for everyones benefit.
GSXR rectifiers/Stators SUCK!
Suzuki does know this, they have since issued recalls on the rectifiers.

Talked to the Parts guy at Brampton Powersports and confirmed that the parts have since been redesigned and look slightly different that they originally did which is how you know that Suzuki is aware of this.
Unfortunetly the recall only goes as far back as 2008. Why would you recall a 6 year old part when you can blame it on regular wear and tear? The K6 and K7 models are out of luck.
Be prepared to spend big bucks. The stator is about $260 and the rectifier is $216 (approx). So add tax and 2-3hrs of labour and its around the $800-$900 mark.
Mine failed twice. I was lucky enough that the fist time it failed it was covered under an extended warranty which I got free when I bought the bike.
I had mine replaced again this season, and the part is different but has the same part number so people don't know that its been tweaked due to a known problem.
Good luck, the part is usually on back order too.
Comes down to $$$$ in the endHow is this not covered by Suzuki, regardless of how old the bike is? This should be a major safety recall.
