My 16 year old sons first try at riding a street bike

The problem with being sixteen is peer influences. The op did right by getting him on the track and blasting around at whatever speed he can get out of the bike. This will be a nice contrast to when he is riding on the streets around posted limits. If he is riding with others hopefully he will think about his track experience and wait till he is on the track and let his buddies get the tickets. I will lay money down the op's son will be in this scenario.

What the heck do you feed that kid? 16? I'm freaking 28 n I look like I'm 16

lol I was wondering the same thing. You've got a good looking kid there. I think kids starting young especially on dirt bikes take more responsibility and have more respect for riding a motorcycle.

I'm surprised they let you do the drag strip with only normal pants and a textile jacket. Even in a straight line things can go wrong, and at those speeds it's never good.

But Congrats on the first ride! I got my M1 on my 16th birthday, did the M2 course 2 weeks later :p

If he takes after his father, I wouldnt either. That's a horrible, hypocritical attitude. I look forward to having kids to teach to ride and get racing by the time they are 5.
I know lots of kids that are better riders than most of us on this board and they can't even get a license yet.

Sparta also lets you with normal pants.

pretty much did the same thing. m1 at 16, m2 few weeks later.

When I took the m2, the 2 other 16 yr old's had a lot of experience riding dirt and were both great riders

Is that front tire on backwards?

The point of being a good parent is raising a productive member of society, not sheltering them and making more babies that won't know how to take care of themselves.

I think you need to host a seminar. The more parents I talk to; the more I notice that they feel strongly about one of these philosophies or the other.

I wish my parents felt this way, but since they do not, I will ensure the next generation is not subject to this treatment. Now where'd I put that bubble wrap...

Your son will never forget this. Luckily I was raised by parents who wanted me to at least try everything once. Been riding for 25+ years now. Funny thing is the only real memory I have from being a kid was when I was 5 years old riding around my yard on my brand new JR50 with training wheels.
