MV Agusta F3 Test Ride request

Hi everyone,
I have a dilemma. I really want to buy an F3 675. The problem is that the only dealer in the GTA has one and it belongs to a customer who is selling the bike. Hence, nobody can take it out for a test ride.

I know this is a stretch and likely won't happen, but is there anyone with an F3 that would let me take it out for a ride to get a feel for it? I will of course provide collateral in case anything happens.

I really don't want to drop over $10K on something I can't experience beforehand.

*finger crossed*

EDIT: I am willing to pay to "rent" the bike for about an hour to get a feel for the seat and see if it's comfortable on extended rides. I think $100 is a fair amount but I'm open to discussion.
I recommend someone to follow me on another bike, car, or even my own bike just in case something does happen.

To tell you the truth, I'd be flabbergasted if someone let a new rider hop on their F3. Looking at your profile, you've been riding only a few months, so don't take it personal when nobody offers.

I completely understand. That being said, I've put 5000 clicks on my bike. At what point am I no longer considered a new rider? Is this measured in time or in mileage? Would someone who has ridden 20,000km in 2 years be more or less experienced than someone who has ridden 5,000km in 5 years?

Note that I've been driving for over 10 years now and have a clean driving record.

5k is a just past the noob stage. That's a few weeks riding for many here.
A few years of 15k+ gets you some experience so not a new rider, not an experienced rider yet.
100k in 5-7 years you are experienced tho adding, off road or track or long tours into the mix might get you there quicker.. Saddle time and varied experience is critical - not distance so much.
Boring can be a 1000km day, wonderful and technical can be a 200 km day or less.

Seems what you are looking at is an SS and you might want to get those track days in and check the insurance before you you drop money and increase your risk. As for a test ride....you'd be ponying up the whole amount for anyone with a grain of sense.

Had another new rider think he was ready, moved to a 600SS and we picked up the bits on a ride. Expensive lesson and could have been far far worse.

my 2 cents

also you can't possibly tell from a short test ride.....a rider with a wider range of bike experience might be able to but for instance my kid thought the SV650s could be toured on occasion but it took a couple of 1700k weekends for him to wake up to the reality that he could not handle those distances on that bike
Now he's on a much better FZ8 - more power, better suspension and much much better seating position and he's got 6 years of riding including off road on some edgy bikes.
But it took a year to get past the "I want a sport bike".

There are few roads nearby that you can make use of one.
Consider what your goals are.

Geez you've only been riding since mid June!!!

Thanks Mac, I appreciate the input. I've thought about it for a while and I do want something that has more power and something that I would keep for a very very long time. My current CBR500 won't last me past next season. Also, the dealer with the F3 wants my bike for a trade-in so I rather upgrade now while the value is still present.

I'm 28, fairly mature, and don't do anything stupid so I think I will be able to handle the new bike without having someone to pick up the pieces.

Regardless, like I said, I'm reaching here and hoping that someone would be able to help me out but I'm not holding my breath.

Did you try Ride Motorcycles at 7 and Islington? I saw 2 or 3 MV F3's there last week.

test ride the daytona 675r - the f3 is about half the bike, so that should give you an idea :D

How much is the dealer giving you for trade in?

Off topic I know but still curious!

Why will your 500 not last you past next season?? Are you wearing it out??

Definitely going to test ride the daytona 675 (not the R though as they don't have it). This will give me a feel for the power, but what I really want is the feel of the entire bike. Sure, riding the Daytona will probably let me know 90% of what I need to know, it's the other 10% that worries me. :)

just pull the trigger, you know you'll have a smile on your face no matter what.

Sorry mate, not gonna happen.

We can meet up and discuss the bike and can answer some questions.

A 500cc isn't enough? Are you 400 lbs or something, lol!
HEY! That's not very nice. I'm very sensitive about my weight.

Kidding. I'm 170. But the bike is slower than I expect it to be when I'm doing the twisties. Plus when I ride two up, it's even slower... Don't let the cc's fool you, the bike is a beginner one and is configured completely different than even the 600cc bikes.

I'd hang onto that 500 and push a little more...

Now if it's looks factor you want, the F3 is a beauty. Either way, you wont be disappointed.
