Movie editing software?

Got a ton of clips from a trip but need to edit them and trim them down. Any recommendations on simple editing software to simply cut out boring sections in the middle of the recordings?

Windows Live Movie Maker or imovie.
Awesome thanks! I guess to take out the middle of the video I would need to use the split function and drag the unwanted part to the end of the video then trim the end off? Or is there an easier way to do it?

Cheers,

Not sure what Operating System you have, but I use Sony Vegas which is a little more than most need. So try Windows Movie Maker or Pinnacle Studio.

Running windows 7 on one computer and max osx (way outdated) on the other. Vegas is way too much for what I am doing but am giving windows movie maker and try and seems to be working. Thanks!

Some awesome riding vids to come in the multimedia threads!

Adobe Primere, just drop them in the timeline and click the Razor tool and just click on the clip where you want to chop it up. Delete the parts you don't like, export, done. Doesn't lose any quality at all (going to F4V for YouTube).

If you need help, or the software, let me know.

All he wants to do is chop some parts out. Why would he buy software to do that when the free stuff that comes with an OS will do the same thing quicker and easier?

I know, I was going to mention the other way of getting it as well but my point is the same. Why go through the trouble?

To maintain the quality of the original video, since WMM converts everything to .wmv format.

OP: One I use is Avidemux. It's a bit clunky but it's free and it chops out sections easily and saves the changes without losses.

Not going to see a difference if you're uploading it to youtube.

If you are simply interested in extracting sections of video without "editing" or combining or adding effects - what you really need is a video SPLITTER, not an editor.

Splitters will maintain original file format, video size, codec, etc and simply extract a chuck of video. MUCH faster as you don't need to export and re-encode.

There are a bunch of freeware splitters out there you can use, simply tell the software the start and end point (usually in seconds) and it will spit out a video file QUICKLY with that section.

It isn't a true splitter, but I use Akme FFmpeg a LOT for various tasks - might be overkill for just a video split but it will work fine. Just select "same as original" for video size, and "default" for video codec if you want to simply split.

I am using Corel VideoStudio Pro X5, however if you want to save more money, you can actually pick the Pro X4 for less than $40 on Amazon.com...just do a search. Hope it helps.

When did Corel come out with video editing? I'm a big Corel fan, will have to demo VideoStudio and see how I like it :)

Corel bought Pinnacle from Avid IIRC.
Ahh, was never a pinnacle fan :( i thought it was something corel did from scratch :(

I find when I make movies from my GoPro with live movie maker the quality comes out bad. I have the settings set for HD on the camera but when I watch it on my Hd tv it looks like the old goPro did. How can I get a copy of the adobe software for free? I bought photoshop Eliments and like it for my pics and ease of use,and was wondering if Primere is better then movie maker?

I won't get into how to obtain software for free but if the quality is bad from Windows Live there is something wrong with your settings. There is a zune preset for 720p which should give you pretty decent quality. Also make sure that the software is set for 16:9 not 4:3.
