mountain biking near hamilton?

Did you lose a bet?

Losing the bet would have been staying in the GTA. Hamilton is most certainly a hole, but i'm on my unions hamilton and cambridge lists so once i go back to work i can work out of the city, and live somewhere actually nice. Feel way more sorry for all the peoples stuck in suburbia hell.

Now about mountain bikes!

Waterdown, Hilton Falls and Kelso are all fairly nearby!

I still suggest going used. My current rig is a 9 year old Cannondale Jekyll 2000. XT hydro brakes, SRAM X7/9 gear thingies plus all the CODA stuff. I got it off Kijiji for $600.

Kijiji is great for finding used bikes at a good price, provided you either have a decent first hand knowledge of what you're looking for and looking at, or have a friend who does, and will give your prospective purchase a once over.

Luckily I can verify these things myself.

A season and a half with it now. I'd estimate that I've put about... hmmm.. 500km on it.. and I've had to replace the bottom bracket, rear derailleur pulleys and then new brake pads and oil.

Yeah i dont know what any of that is or which brands are higher end. Have noticed most bikes at the top of my price range come with shimano hydraulic brakes as opposed to a cheaper version. I'll check kijiji and see what i find.

Regarding mountain bike riding in Hamilton... I'm always down. I'm in the same position being off work and can ride most days. Dundas Valley is nice with a lot of wide packed trails and some hidden single track (need to know where to find them). If your not afraid to drive or even car pool, we have a group that rides a couple times a week. We go to Turkey point, Puslinch and Hydro cut in Waterloo (hands down the best riding in southern Ontario and FREE!:D). We also go to Hardwood Hills and for 2 hrs drive and $12 its still worth it.

Thinking of checking out Buckwallow this week for the first time...

PM me if your interested.

Can't view Pinkbike at work.

Can you copy and paste the info?

18" frame
2009 Kona caldera, picked it up around fall brand new, and maby gave it a good 6-7 rides before i locked it up for winter. Back disk brake has a bit of a squeek. Great bike for don valley and humber xc trails. message me or try calling if interested. Looking for 650$ was over a 1000$ when i picked it up. Make me a reasonable offer and we'll talk.

the second one is a small norco taktic but i'm thinking i need at least a medium. Not sure how a medium/large translates compared to inch size

Awesome man i'm definitely interested. Just gotta get a bike first. Going to spend some more time on kijiji/pinkbike this afternoon, can anyone suggest what size i should be looking at? 6'0 30-31" in seam.

yay or nay if i can get it for 800? asking 900. Still dont know if i need a med or large

***I have for sale a mint condiditon 2011 cannondale SL2 trail. It is a medium frame, 26'' wheels, shimano hyrdaulics. Im trying to make the switch to a road bike so I am willing for trades if the bike is right. Looking for a cannondale Caad 10 56'' and would be willing to offer cash as well towards the trade. This bike has less that 200k on it and has not been touched since its tune up last week! Literally could be sold in a hop as new.***

Or this, dont know size, asking 800, its full suspension. Mostly looking for a hard tail but meh

***A well kept Devinci Arrowhead with added Juicy 7 Hydraulic Brakes

RockShox Deuce and Fox Float full suspension set up
Mavic wheels,Shimano XT Derailleur, Truvativ crank/drivetrain, Specialized flat pedals, Selle Italia Seat. ***

or this, 18.5" frame. Its got inverted forks, that makes it badass right?

**this is a 2008 trek 69er. great shape. looking for a dual suspension xc bike. any trades or offers just pm me.**

My options seem to be one of the 4 i've listed above, or buying a new opus as most brands seem to start around 800. Lets hear it.

Why dont you pass by a bike shop and see what feels right?

i always feel weird about window shopping, asking for help but not being serious about buying anything. Online calculators come in around the 18" range so 18-18.5, or a medium i'm guessing is going to feel right. I'm planning on looking at new on the weekend if i dont find something good used to look at before then.

6'-0" w. 30" inseeam? And I thought invictus was a freak. :D

You don't want a 69er. They are more XC race oriented, and have handling traits that you need to adapt to. 18 is as big as you'll want to go with a 30ish inseam. No less than 17 or the top tube will be too short for your torso length. Doesn't leave you a lot of wiggle room. C'fails tend to run a bit big. That MED will be at least an 18. The clue is the guy is looking for a 56cm road bike. Max size for you would be a 53cm, or a custom 51 with a longer top tube. You could always try it out and see if it fits.

Okay so I measured my inseam and its 32-32.5", was kind of just going off my pant size which always is a 30 inseam but I guess I do tend to wear my pants on my hips.

Sounds like a medium or 18" will be perfect for me. Which one is c-fails? Is that a slang for cannondale kind of like kan-o-tuna for katanas?

Any thoughts between the cannondale and the kona that I linked to first?

I would go Kona, but I have 3 of them, so I'm sorta biased.

I owned a Crack 'n fail once. It was stripped for the parts within minutes of it showing up on the doorstep. Again, biased.
