I am looking to replace the stock yamaha fz6 tires front and back. I wanted to get the stock OEM, but they seems overpriced at about $250-$275 each plus $100 for installation for both.

I use my bike mostly for commuting and highway riding and ocassionally take it up north on rides (but still paved streets). Occasionally I get stuck in rain, but try not to do wet condition riding.

Any recommendations for aftermarket tires that are quality and decently priced? Also a recommendation for a shop where the installation is less than $100 for both tires would be much appriciated.

I need:
120/70/17 front
180/55/17 back
 
I bought the cheapo Shinko tires this season. No problems at all with them on my gsxr. Paid $179 + tax for the set at pannon and got Daniel at Heritage auto to install them for $85.
 
I have the same bike, get the pilot road 2 from michelin. Buy them from petes super bike and get rosey toes to install them.

I think the exact OEM tire will be more expensive than the almost identical generic version. In fact I belive they discontinued them for the FZ6 (Bridgestone BT-020) so if you find any they might also be quite old. Look at the BT-021 instead, they should be more reasonably priced.
 
I had the FZ6, imo the stock rubbers were horrible.

+1 Go with Pilot Road 2s from Pete's and installed by Rosey Toes.

But if you want the OEM tires, the place I work sells them, but we're in Peterborough. For tires $100-$150, you get 10% off, $150-$200, you get 15% off and $200+ you get 20% off the retail price of tires. and it'll cost $30 a tire to install (off bike).

Research the Metzler m5's...they are multi compound tires with tension bars instead of different rubber compounds throughout.

makes for a very good tire for twisties and excellent center wear for commuting.

the reviews are just nuts, and they are great tires. Way more confident on these than what i had stock r6 and zx6.
 
Just got Pilot Road 2's from Pete's 330 and change shipped to Ontario, was on my porch the next day. Rosey Toes install for 30 bucks, gave him 40 cause he put mine at the front of the line, probably so my 2 year old would stop asking him why? about everything. Great tire a little over 500 km on them now and wish I had of put them on sooner.
 
I changed to Pirelli Angel ST's and so far love them. Great in the wet. They are definitely going to last longer than the OEM tires that came on my bike. The Angel/Demon pattern is kind of cool too.

As far as Pete's, definitely some of the best prices around. Pete's prices for the Angel in your size is $119 front and $148 rear. I have found some dealers in Ottawa who will match their shipped price however so perhaps there are some in the GTA who will price match as well.
 
I have to suggest Mich Pilot Road 2's. I have 16,000 kms on my set and they still look pretty good. Even after a trip to the BRP and Deals Gap.
 
A few guys on my forum recommended Continental Conti Motion. I priced out a set from GP Bikes for my size (120/60/17 front, 160/60/17 rear) for a little under $250.

Luckily I don't need'em yet.
 
Another fan of Pilot Road 2s here. All round, long lasting, great confidence inspiring tire. Thoroughly wet weather tested.....and light snow.
 
+1 on the PR 2's. I've got almost 20K on my set and they haven't squared off yet! Excellent tire. I get my tires from Pete's as well. Hard to find them cheaper anywhere else. Although I did pick up a set of Pilot Power 2 CT's at Royal Distributing for $269 total at their no-tax event a few months back. Just waiting for the PR's to bite the dust.
 
I have 2007 FZ6 and just got Pilots 3 (new ones) from Pete. Installed at Rosey Toes.
Tires - 310 + taxes + shipping = 370
Installation (just rode the bike in) - 70 for both
So my total was 430.
 
Update - as of this morning I got around 260K on my new tires. And they started to feel stickier and stickier and oh so smooth! So higly recommended. As for the wear - my buddy put same tires on his zrx1200 before our 4000K trip. We compared them yesterday and his tires have virtually no wear (and he is hard rider).
 
Another tire to consider is the Dunlop Roadsmart. It's a duel compound tire... gets great reviews, and can be had for substantially less than the PR 2's.
I got mine @ Zdeno cycle in Kitchener... $65 to instal both front & rear with rims on the bike... it's a great tire too.
