Motorcycle Thieves In Full Force.

is parking downtown really that bad???
i don't have my bike here yet, but i don't want it getting taxed
i'm planning to park at the downtown core area during day time only

i've seen the cbr video, but hopefully that won't happen here...

been parking dt during working hours for almost two years now...i'm usually 1 of 20 bikes parked near dundas/bay so i'm not too worried.

there is always enough foot traffic and smokers around the area.

No, it's not.

This is Toronto...Not Compton.

People certainly like to get their panties in a bunch about the big bad city though.

Park it anywhere except a deserted back alley, and you'll be fine.

When I bought my project/spare parts bike the guy's son lifted the front wheel on to the back of my truck and then lifted the back end on like it was no more effort than when i'm lifting a cinder block... bike is 500 pounds. took longer to strap the bike down than to get it in the back of the truck.
That's the same way he stole it too :D

Park on James St. between old city hall and the eaton ctr. There's usually room for bikes along there.

i wouldnt place any doubt for thieves in or out of the city.

with that said, ive seen bikes parked on the street without a problem but then again when there is a problem im never around.

i've seen video of bikes getting stolen in broad day light...

do parking enforcement give tickets to all motorcycles parked on the sidewalk? how else could you chain your bike to a stand/pole?

and is it weird to have a cover on your bike in public? if it deters theft and tickets why not? look like a fool but a fool who gets to ride away with my bike and no tickets

Holy "thread from the dead " batman !

I try to park in conspicuous places most of the time but there are some streets downtown that I wouldn't risk, like simcoe st/pearl st (looks like a long back alley with not a lot of foot traffic/cars).

I should have looked at the date of this thread.

It would not be technically difficult or expensive to build a pager and code activated "security device" to leave on the bike that you can "activate" if the bike disappears. I understand bear spray is very unpleasant in confined spaces...

When I bought my bike from the dealer I got them to install a gps tracking system on the bike similar to I guess gms on star. There is no monthly fee, ran about 500, and in the event the bike isn't recovered you get a 4000 $ check.
**edit
The 4k is completely separate from your insurance coverage, comes from the service provider.

Also, a couple of friends have mentioned that a good deterrent is a dust cover, keeps people from sitting on the bike etc.

At the. End of the day if they really want to steel it they will
