Motorcycle Thieves In Full Force.

Taken from experience when dealing with law enforcements... let's just say you were able to find the whereabouts of your bike after it is stolen, the cops won't do anything. This would be exactly the same case when I experienced a break and enter. Even though the phone was located (most phones have GPS and with blackberry protect, the wonders that can be done to track a phone), the cops won't do anything. That's what insurance is for. Yes, the crooks get off scott free, and the insurance holder and other policy holders all pay for it in the end.

Do I like it? Hell no, but what can you do. Best thing is just to ensure you have the proper coverage on your bike. Hopefully an SV650 is not something that is popular by demand.

Sounds like a good business.

@cager- I work in the same building as you and also park on James St, right across from courthouse, so there are always tons of smokers and tons of cops as deterrents.

Park on James St. between old city hall and the eaton ctr. There's usually room for bikes along there.

I was never really worried about my bike last year as it looked pretty darn ugly with missing plastics from track kit etc, but this year I have brand new plastics and it actually looks like an SS bike- a fairly nice one too. I have a massive chain that I think would act as a good deterrent underground, but the question I have is...I dont have a cement column or anything to put it around so should I put it around my car tire in same spot??? suggestions please.

Thanks
Jenn

chains can easily be cut with a gas powered cutter.
your best bet is to get theft insurance.

Actually, don't even need to go that far - simple bolt cutters will suffice to cut through most chains (save but one or two): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck I did source out a chain and lock combo that would resist cutting (based on a few bike forums and a week of research), with a cost of about $800CDN (including currency conversions, shipping, etc.).

KawasakiGal's bike is open for duck season - users can pretty much either cut the chain, or at worst, hoist the bike into a waiting van to cut the chain at their leisure once they get to destination (for a determined bike thief).

You best deterrents are alarms, and failing that, make sure you have theft insurance.

Oh cool, i use to work in that building too. Use to see tons of bikes parked on James St. during summers.

Ahhhh miss that location.

So how are "motorcycle thieves in full force" exactly? Because your bike got moved? I park downtown overnight on the street every other day. Had nary a problem. I'm sure we all know the risks by now. It's annoying how many pointless threads are on this board nowadays.

If my bike was stolen and I knew where it was... I wouldn't want the cops involved! Cops are pretty much useless except for filling out paperwork and making reports.... IMO

Insurance is your only real option. They want it they will get it. And I don't want my bike back if it gets stolen, nothing but junk after that too me. Claim...
