Motorcycle Superstore Brokerage Fees if Shipped to Canada?

I'm looking to buy a helmet and jacket so I can get an M2 and get into riding for next summer. So far it seems that motorcycle-superstore.com has the lowest prices for riding gear however they ship with UPS and I'm a little weary of brokerage fees even though on their website it says that brokerage fees are included at checkout. Has anyone ever purchased anything through these guys and if so, were there any surprises when you received your package?

Any other recommendations you guys can make on helmet/jacket or decent vendors? Just trying to keep costs at a minimum.

For a jacket and any type of gear (outside of helmet) I would look at Kijiji. There's a ton of used gear out there in great condition because either it doesn't fit well, people don't like it, or they stopped riding. Helmets I don't buy used because you don't know if it's been down, plus I don't want someone's sweat, hair, and whatever else on my head.

Whatever you do, NEVER buy from an online store that uses UPS. They have hidden extra costs that they expect you to cough up on delivery. Stick with USPS only!
have you tried Revzilla? Also, Canada's Motorcycle.com some of their prices very competitive

I bought a Sergeant seat from Motorcycle Superstore a couple of years ago. There were no extra charges when it arrived at my door. In addition to this, the shipping was fast - it was delivered to my house in Canada less than 48 hours after I ordered it. Impressive service (but I don't know if this is typical.)

+1 on NEVER using UPS to ship from the USA to Canada - their extra charges are outrageous and you'll never know until they show up at your door asking for money before they will deliver your goods. USPS (US Postal Service) is the cheapest.

If you are on a tight budget, you might want to consider some used gear from Re-gear in Oshawa. I've been to the store and the used gear is in great shape. The prices are good - They post a lot of their used gear on Kijiji http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-PostersOtherAds-W0QQUserIdZ5395838 I think there is also a thread on this forum discussing their store.

There are also some good deals to be had at GP Bikes and Royal Distributing in Whitby.

UPS is a total scam, they charge you a percentage of the value for customs fees, even though it is exactly the same work for a $20 item or a $1000 item.

Use a Shipping Warehouse like cbiusa.com and pick it up yourself. Lots of US Retailers ship free or with US Postal Service within the United States. If you come back into Canada, just declare and pay HST.

This. LOVE using CBI. So easy, way cheaper if you're receiving multiple packages from the US, and a chance to go across the border and get a Cheesecake Factory fix in. Haha.

When was the last time you guys got anything shipped by UPS? lol!! They had such a problem with people not paying the brokerage fee's (or the taxes which UPS already paid to the government on your behalf) that they make most international shipments use the new UPS "all in" service. All duty, taxes and brokerage are included in the price you pay to the seller. When checking out with a site that uses UPS look for the checkbox that says "include the fee's in my invoice total". When UPS shows up at your door you owe them nothing. They are super reasonable with the brokerage charges now. I just ordered a helmet from Revzilla (Scorpion EXO-400 Snell 2010 on sale for $99) and it was delivered this way, UPS, owed nothing at my door.

really? i haven't heard of this change either...

That's what I do.

I used to only use USPS, but if you check exactly which UPS service is being used, you can make sure it is one without the brokerage fee. I've been dinged for $20 to $70 in the past.

I ordered a Rapid Transit tank bag from the Motorcycle Superstore because nobody up here had it. The shipping fee was higher to begin with (I think it was $30), but it came by UPS and that was the total. No extra fees.

Canada's Motorcycle has been pretty good for everything else, especially with free delivery on orders over $99 - it's quick delivery by Canada Post, and mine is always delivered with a smile.

I've been dinged in the past by UPS - great prices and selection from Rock Auto (car parts only), then a big surprise when the parts arrived. I could have waited an extra day or two and paid about the same right here.

I bought from them. They charged all taxes and fees at checkout. I called specifically to ask if I will be hit with other fees when delivered and they assured me there would be none. I did not pay anything on delivery, and it was shipped by UPS.

But yes, UPS Ground is a scam.
