Just wanted to plug a local motorcycle rental place. I know some of you might be looking for a bike for an M course or rent a bike for a visiting family member or even rent one for yourself when yours is down. Or even when you want to try a different model and you don't have any buddies that own that particular bike.

Off the top.
I am not affiliated with this company nor do I personally know the gentleman that runs this business. My only experience with them is renting a bike from the for fathers day in 2019. My wife surprised me with a bike rental for the day. It was a good experience.
There is no personal gain for me by posting this.

You are free to do your own research on this place and make your own judgement.
This is what I know about them from a short conversation with the owner in 2019.

Their prices are very reasonable ($149 per 1-2 days + HST) and they have a few different bikes to choose from. The prices are the same for most bikes. Some bikes may have a $25/day difference in rental fee.

The bikes DO come with insurance so you do not need to have your own insurance. Great for visiting family members/relatives.

From what I know they are registered in Quebec, on Quebec plates and Quebec insurance. However, the owner assured me that this is all 100% legit and the insurance does work here in Ontario in case of an accident.
I did not get into the details of how this works, but I do not think someone would be trying to run a rental business with multiple bikes under the table/illegitimately.
The owner, was also very nice and polite and accommodating. I think his name was Andre but I could be wrong.

They run the business out of Oakville (Fourth Line and QEW). That is where you pick up and drop if the bikes.
They also have a second location in the Ottawa/Gatineau area.

The current fleet is as follows. They only have one of each so you need to call ahead for availability. It is obvious that they do not have the latest models or the most sought after bikes. But this is how they are able to keep the prices affordable.

Sounds pretty not legal to me. As a starting point, aren't motor vehicle plates supposed to match the province where the vehicle lives within 60 days or so? It all works until you have a claim. The gatineau location looks like it could be viably legit, but the Oakville locations with Quebec plated bikes that you can rent for 180 days seems very unlikely that it is entirely above board. Why is insurance not mentioned anywhere on their website/facebook?

It looks like QC only requires $50,000 liability for motorcycles. If someone does this, make sure you read the policy for the bike you are renting and make sure it is at least 1,000,000 (preferably 2.000.000)
 
Making a claim on one of these motorcycles could be difficult -- insuring a vehicle in QC that lives in a different jurisdiction is considered insurance fraud -- if it was legal you'd see thousands of Ontario cars sporting QC plates. Being party to that (meaning if you ever get into a claim) could scar your insurance record for up to 10 years -- is it worth seeing your rates jump to $1000/month because you are tagged with insurance fraud?

Believing another individuals claim that it's totally legal doesn't put you in the clear.
 
From what I know the company is registered in QC with the Ontario location as its satellite office.
The bikes are circulated between the two locations so the bike does end up in QC every so often.

I am not too familiar how the rules of insurance work in great detail.
But when I asked, the owner said that he has this looked at through some lawyers and advised that it was legit.

There certainly is a way for a rental vehicle to be registered and plated in a different province or state (look at the Uhaul trucks and trailers with their Arizona plates), but no idea if this case is doing so in a truly legal fashion with resulting proper insurance coverage.

We offer motorcycle delivery and pick-up as well, extra charges will apply, depending on distance. We offer motorcycle transportation as well for your motorcycle."

So, not for personal use? Probably an insurance issue...
 
As mentioned, UHaul all seem to be registered in Arizona. I have also had an Enterprise rental car in TO with QC plates, although that is an oddity not the norm.

In that case, consider all motorcycles I own available for big buck photo shoots and movie sets effective immediately.

That makes more sense. That allows them to cycle as needed (or at least avoid having paperwork that proves they don't cycle). Do they mean M1 exit or M2 exit? It sounds like M1 exit in which case, those bikes are closed course use only and no insurance required (IIRC) A borrowed ST1300 would not be my bike of choice for an M1 exit though. You are just making your life unnecessarily hard. If it was truly for testing and not just "testing" you would think they would have a bunch of 250's.

Unless there's been an insurance change in the last year a vehicle is rated by where it is garaged, not the owner's convenient address. I have a friend that uses his cottage address to get really cheap rates. He lives and works in the GTA. In the event of a large claim he could be in deep trouble. The point is that you can't rate shop by using your cousin's address in Dinkwater.

With the rental bikes, in the event of an expensive at fault crash, is there any guarantee that the liability is only against the bike owner, likely an incorporated company.

If John Doe starts an incorporated company, JD Bike Rentals Inc. John Doe's personal assets are protected so he doesn't lose his house etc. He could also own the bikes and lease them to the rental company. The company assets are a cell phone and a desk. In the event of a large claim and insurance backs out where is there any money for the victim?

Does a court see a victim in this situation and say anyone with a hand in the victim's suffering has to share in the payout? Including the rider?

What are the medical benefits with PQ insurance policies? Could they be worse than Ontario? Do you have to negotiate in another language and or location?

Risk factor: Maybe an instructor can chime in. During a course is it typical for at least one bike to crash? Do those odds transfer to the street with a person inexperienced on a particular bike?

I did m1 exit and m2 exit courses. M1 exit was a #^#%show. A literal pile of bikes and then the last one in tried to jump them (unsucessfully) in a 250 marauder.

M2 exit was many skilled riders and a few who should never ever be on the road. Just the wrong attitude. After the 3rd time a lady dumped her sportser, the instructors took pity on her bike and grabbed her a school bike to practice with. Her husband also dropped his big harley.
