Motorcycle Racing Doomed on TV

Have you been under a rock?

Racing in general is doomed. I was at a shop this weekend and a trackday guy didn't know who Jason Disalvo was, even my wife couldn't bieleve it when I told her. Oh BTW, the CSBK national is at Shannonville this weekend!!! Bet %95 of the gtam community didn't know that and most don't even care. Motorcycle racing is in a sad state in North America.

AMA races were already available via torrents by yesterday evening, so i have gotten over the fact that Speed pretty much offers nothing to me know.

I did not know I was pitted beside Jordan Szoke till after the track day. All I could think was wow what a baller setup and this guy has been tinkering all morning, when is he gonna go out ?!

Canadian racing hasen't been televised for years so that's understandable and you atleast know his name but if you were beside Jake Zemkie, Roger Hayden, Josh Hayes, Larrey Pegram etc, top AMA riders that have been on TV for years (AMA is only available on CBS sports as of this year) then that's unacceptable. 90,000+ fans for a race in Europe and here people don't even know the names of the best riders we have on this side of the globe.

It's hard to fit those big logos on Nascars to bikes.
Motorcycles are fashion accessories now.
Dorks on Bikes

Not everyone's interested in ss racing. I for one am not, but I do like enduro and Dakar Rally which are not available on regular TV. to each his own.

...what the hell does that have to do with anything? Bikes have always been tied to fashion and lifestyle. I'm sure what you're talking about though is people riding Honda CB400s because everyone has a hard on for hating on that crowd. Grow up.

They still have a signed poster in the MTO in Scarborough on Sheppard/McCowan.

Damn shame there isn't more coverage/advertising for the events.

Haha me too! But I still know who Wayne Rainy, Mick Doohan, and Kevin Schwantz are (I'm only 28 too). I was always much more into motocross as a kid (which wasn't televised then) because I could relate to it but my dad was into road racing so I was heavily exposed to bikes and racing in general. I just don't get how people can ride and not have the slightest interest in racing.

That's like saying how can people drive and not have the slightest interest in nascar or f1. It's just not for everyone. I do however think if they would televise more motorcycle racing it would get a larger following. It's ten times more fun to watch than stupid @ss nascrap.

I believe the future of all specialty sports is for them to be available by download only. It's not just motorcycle roadracing.

The mass market TV networks are only interested in getting the biggest possible audience numbers (and in the process, taking viewership from each other) so they will only televise things with the biggest possible mass-market appeal.

August 17th, Speed Channel as a whole is being replaced by something called Fox Sports One. Expect NASCAR and stick-and-ball sports that have large US-market appeal ... nothing more.

CSBK is download-only this coming year. I remember when it was shown on TSN ... that's how I first became aware of it.

Not really, motorcycling is more of a hobby than transportation to people in N/A and if you drive a high performance car than yes I would assume you know somthing about racing.

You'd be surprised how many people with 'fast' cars have no clue. All they know is their buddy has blah blah blah and they want it too.
