One of the biggest factors impacting the longevity of bikes today is expensive electronic technology. It works at a bikes lifespan in a few ways 1) Repair costs often exceed the replacement value of a bike leading it to the scrapper, 2) When a bike has useful used parts that are expensive, it encourages parting rather than rebuilding.

I'd say the bulk of Harleys are bought mainly for posing to people that is important for. Many are ridden for pure pleasure on weekends so rack up fewer kilometres. Other brands are more utilitarian and used for commuting and pleasure and so will more likely have higher use and therefore shorter life.
