Hi im 16 and just got my m1 i dont have alot of cash since my parents dont support motorcycle driving i gota do this all myself aha...
Well i was planning on getting a Honda CBR125 and was wondering WHAT INSURANCE COMPANIES WOULD INSURE ME and how much the insurance would cost per year or per month.. and also if there are any other really good begginers bikes with very low insurance would be much appreciated

Two things:

1) ask this question in the insurance section

2) call multiple insurance companies to get a quote. You're not going to get a definitive answer here.

You can't get much more beginner-friendly than a CBR125, unless you were to go the scooter or moped route, so I think you're good to go with your choice of bike.

Good luck!

16 and M1. Sign up for a M2 exit course and get your M2. Then wait till your 18 to get your bike. Each year you have your M2 the better. I don't think any insurance company will insure you for less than $4,000 a year. If you can find one that will. Call around and get quotes before you buy a bike. Post back what kind of quotes you get and from who. This info will help other young riders.

Best of luck.

Hey I am 16 too, and I got my m2 in April through learning curves. The cheapest quote I got for a cbr125 was $3750, but it’s all in one payment. So I am waiting a year for the insurance price to drop a bit. So if you plan on riding this year it’s going to cost you. As far as insurance companies, the only ones that were willing to insure me (that I found) were TD and facility.

How do you post a question in the insurance section were is it sorry im new :/ and $3750 !!! :'( Is there any like very not well known places that could be really cheap i mean if a mo ped is 1000 a year why is a cbr125 so much more could i pay monthly? and what if my parents have insurane and i put it under there name would it be less?

In consideration of your problem solving abilities and your above average communication skills, please save yourself (and other road users) and wait a couple of years. Hopefully like 10 or so.

Your parents would need there M1 and plans to get M2 and put the bike in there name.

Also your parents don't support your decision to ride. And if they aren't the primary driver then this is insurance fraud.

Like I said before pay a lot now or wait couple years till insurance drops for you.

Dude, you are 16! You should do M2 course asap and also get your G2. Drive around for few years (dont screw with the law and get tickets), enjoy yourself, go to parties etc etc. Trust me, riding can wait.

Yeah man I agree with above, go get laid, drunk and do crazy stupid things to annoy people @ malls n stuff. Once all of that is done and you have it out of your system , you will be 18 or maybe 21 and with better options. Just keep your license valid!

@ your age your options are limited and without parental approval is just not helping.

No rush getting into riding and buying a bike, at least you were smart and asked and checked insurance prices before buying the bike.

Wow, I must have lucked out getting a 500 insured at 16 for $3000, the price was still the same even at 18 with a full GM, so I don't thinking waiting will really make much of a difference other then the fact that you'll have saved some money up.

You are a girl remember?

It's scary enough getting insurance for a 16 year old new driver for a cage. A bike is financially heart breaking. If you have the passion for two wheels, there are alternatives. The smart thing is to pursue your M2/G2 class licences.

Then I'd look at what kind of budget you've got. Maybe getting a bike for the road isn't possible. Some have their parents help by getting their licence with their 16 year, get a bike and share it to help share the burden of the cost. Some have friends or family that have the room and place to store and ride a dirt bike for a few thrills. Helps develop some skills, helps feed the desire and the cost of the bike and gear isn't quite as bad as the insurance costs itself.

Dreams of being 16 years old and owning and riding a bike for the street are very much dreams. It's possible if you have the funds to make it happen. Most of us seasoned riders still can't believe how much it cost to insure a bike ourselves so, I can't imagine trying to do it as a young rider in this day and age.

Good luck!!!

Just don't... You are too young to die. If you are really interested, get on a dirt bike and enjoy it until you have the $$$. Getting/owning a motorcycle is a very expensive hobby/sport.

An expensive hobby you've got there. Well there is a vast range of companies out there. I guess you could go for the cheaper ones but they might not cover a good length of years. I think there are a couple of firms which I could suggest you try when i get home.

They want more than the value of the bike to insure it? That's horses#!t. How is it that insurance companies can punish people before they've done anything? They have an entire lifetime of nailing you after you screw up, they should legally be forced to give anyone with a clean record, appropriate rates.

Wow I'm shocked with how many people are against it. I can tell you from experience since I got my M1 when I was 16 and unfortunately right at the beginning of graduated licensing.

There is a huge plus to getting your M1/M2 before getting your G1/G2 and it's called Freedom since if you just stick to driving a car your stuck doing it with someone else for the first year! well at least that's why I did it. My first bike was a Yamaha YSR50 and my insurance was $800 for the first year and due up front. Within the first year I went through 4 bikes (RZ350, Interceptor 750, CBR F4) before I found one (CBR F4) I stuck with. I think in total I paid around $2500 that first year for insurance.

The biggest problem with insurance is the fact you have no history so waiting isn't going to do **** for you. At some point you need to suck it up and just pay. I will tell you you are pretty much going to work to ride which in my opinion isn't all that bad at that age.

Good luck and welcome to the best thing in this world two wheels!

I was in the same position as you a couple years ago (but I was 17). Insurance won't come cheap and I tried cutting costs down as money is hard to come by at that age. I waited a year to qualify with jevco to get a decent (but still expensive) rate for approx $2000. Getting insurance the first year would have costed me $3500. I took that time researching and learning about riding on the internet (and of course taking a motorcycle course) as well as finding a bike for a good deal (unfortunately the one I picked up was pretty messed up which costed another few hundred in repairs).

The reason I didnt go for a more powerful bike was solely because of the price difference between a cbr125r ($1700) and a ninja 250r ($3500). My advice would be just try to wait if you can. I had my bike sitting in my garage for 6 months before I got to insure it and ride it.

After reading more into insurance, there are other things you have to consider.

According to your suggestion, you're saying a person driving for the first time should have similar rates to someone who has been driving for years.

Chances are a 16 year old would be more probable to get into an accident than a 25 year old. When you think about it, in high school kids tend to want to show off and do stupid things while they're at it which cause accidents.
