Motorcycle Boots/shoes

I wear Alpinestar SMX 6 boots. Doesn't matter if I am going around the corner to fill up with gas, or going for a ride. I feel more naked not wearing the high rise boots than "booting" around in a t-shirt. Something about them just feels right and the low cut boots just don't do it for me.

If you ever get some debris fly at your shin while you’re riding you’ll appreciate the shin protection of a decent motorcycle boot too. I wouldn’t wear shoes because of this.

I ended up getting Forma adventure low boots. They definitely offer some shin protection from debris.

A fat toed work boots might pose a problem with shifting. a full on motorcycle boot you might have to adjust the shift pedal but offers the most amount of protection ( it's not just about you ankles being covered but rather keep them from being crushed).
I have two motorcycle shoes/boots. A sidi race boots and txc ankle high sneakes. Maybe a pair of touring/commuting boots are a good bet for you, protection and comfort/walking in. If you decide on boots from Marks just remember to secure your laces.

I wear,
Dainese Motorshoe D1 for the street
A* SMXs, and RST pro series boots for track duty

Well done, you will enjoy them. They are a good versatile boot, waterproof as well. I use them for commuting and even light off roading in the ganaraska forest.

I have a pair of TCX X-Cube boots that have lasted me about 4 seasons so far. Comfortable and protective without going full space-boot on the street.

I have several riding boots. Leather soles are too slippery so avoid them unless they have rubber tacked on. I just bought some Otto Zone leather motorcycle boots for summer riding. Otherwise I have a set of cowboy boots and some harness boots. Also have a pair of oiled leather short engineer boots from Leatherup.
You should always wear leather uppers with a reasonably heavy sole. If your foot gets trapped under the bike in a slide those kind of boots will determine whether you keep your foot or not. Forget sneakers, they pop off quickly and after that its shredded tendons, skin and bone.

You don't have to go outrageously heavy. A low cut boot like the Otto Zones will do the job, and remain comfy for walking.

BMW Allround Goretex boots are a pretty decent choice if you can find them. Decent protection, well made, waterproof/breathable and not really power ranger or steampunk goth at a good price point. I think TCX makes them for BMW.

I tried the Forma boots and really liked the fit but couldn’t get used to the high toe box. Couldn’t really feel the gearshift well. My next boots might be Sidi as they look to have a lower toe box shape in the ADV style boots. I have TCX goretex airflow boots right now and they are great.

As mentioned above look at the sole too. Depending on where you ride you might like a bit more grip when you put your foot down. Nothing worse that putting a foot down and feeling it slip.

Amazon has some decent highly rated ones for like 60 bux or so. By no means top end of protection but much better than my work boots that I was using before. During my wipe out they protected my legs just fine, bike fell on my foot by the foot pegs too and they saved my legs. Could have been much much worse!

Which ones specifically? I'm currently looking for a shorter style boot because my A* boots are really high up on my shin and coupled with my knee pads they're super uncomfortable on the Rebel.
They were much more comfortable on the CB500F where my leg was more stretched out and closer to vertical.

Sometimes you just need to do more window shopping.

I have two pairs of boots, Forma adventure low and Daytona Evo's Both offer great protection and some water resistance. The daytona's are almost like slippers.

Buy cheap, buy twice. You have to spend a few $$ more to get quality.
How do you like the Evo's? Any problem fitting some riding jeans over them?

The EVO's are like slippers. When i was racing i always had issues find the right boots as i have thick calves, Daytonas solved that problem, very adjustable with lots of room. As for riding jeans fitment, i have only ever worn them once or twice on the street and i can't remember any problems. I might be of a different generation than you though, us old guys like baggy jeans :)

The most susceptible body parts to crushing damage are your fingers and toes. I would not skimp or be lazy about foot protection.
If you can't find anything local (new/used) import from abroad. If you lose a toe because you thought work boots are good enough you will regret it for the rest of your life. I had a crash wearing Sidi Vortices, the crash was brutal enough to warrant scrapping all my gear (and almost total my bike) except the boots because they are modular and still roadworthy; suffice to say they sucked up a lot of damage and had I been in lesser boots I would have absorbed much more damage.

Hmm letherup looks interesting, but is it really online only. I need to try stuff on and that won't do as I am finding boot sizes tend to be larger then shoe sizes, for whatever reason.

I bought a pair of Forma Tribe boots at GP Bikes. Comfy, waterproof covers the ankle and about an inch higher than the TCX boots.

not a riding day
so spent 90 minutes on the old boots
good now until around mid August
