Checked it our a few years ago. It was unless they have updated it, a good tracking app but did provide a Nav solution.

So it let you post your rides after the event.

My go to App is Scenic as it allows you to create and edit routes on the fly plus all of the additional benefits like posting or retrieving routes.

The only downside is that it is only available on the iOS platform.

I really liked Scenic. My iPhone flew off my bike last summer, I replaced it with a grownup's phone.

Sadly found out Scenic only works on kiddie phones.

Do you need to connect to the cell network for it to work? I just found my old iPhone, which I was thinking of putting a pay as you go and/or a U.S. card in.

Not directly. I used an old HTC One phone as my radio and riding GPS for a long time - it had a built in FM radio and a brilliant screen that was readable in sunlight.

I connected it to a hotspot on my regular phone.
