Motor Vehicle Fitness Certificates

I'm pretty sure this is already a thing. When I bought my latest car last year and got it safetied, the girl at Service Ontario didn't even bother asking me for copy of the safety when I got it plated, she said it's already in the system.
That happened to me decades ago. I had the paper in my hand but SO already new about it. Or maybe that was E-test? It was long ago. Maybe shops can do paper or not right now but coming up paper is gone? Again, easily solved with a press release and pretty much a non-issue for anybody if that's the extent of the Jan 2025 change. Typing in VIN, mileage, etc into a computer instead of writing on a sheet shouldn't be a big deal.

Glad I’m getting a safety now before the shop needs to follow the new process. The shop owner said they aren’t sure if they will even do them in the new year.

I just wish the MOT would get on with it, whatever 'it' is.

Etest.
Remember they had to connect to the ODB port and upload to the MOT mothership while they did the test? Had to take pictures with the MOT approved camera of the vin and mileage
I think that is what is coming Jan '25 for safeties

This is specifically for heavy duty (read: diesels) but other folks I've spoken to in the automotive and motorcycle business have said they've been told it's coming for them too.
Its not just coming, It's now in effect. I'm in progress but haven't decide if I will go through with it due to the expense and hassle.
