I just bought 4 tickets for me and my buddies for the Indy MotoGP.
:D
2 day general passes (Fri-Sat) and on race day (Sunday) we're sitting in the South Vista Section.
Sat in the same seats last year and it was pretty awesome. You can see them coming out of the straight into the first turn, followed by 4 more turns. Lots of passing happens there.

Ive been 3 times before and it's a blast.
For this year I looked at buying Paddock Passes so I can get autographs from the riders and potentially meet them but I guess you gotta buy a VIP package which will cost $575 - $1050 EACH from Fri-Sun.
God damn!

Who else is going?

Going to try to get out there this year. Unfortunately, no one I know likes MotoGP, and Indianapolis is not exactly a destination city. We'll see...

The wife and I have gone every year. However, we're thinkin' of takin' a pass this year.
The cost of gas, hotel and the general pain in the butt crossing the boarder has become are all factors.

We've always bought the Ducati grandstand package and had a blast.

Being so close to the action allows for some great photos.

Friday and Saturday you can sit anywhere. Great marketing tool so you can see what it's like in other areas for your next visit.
I agree, the south end is THE place to view from.

My wife and I are going, weekend passes with seats in J for Sunday. Never been, but looking forward to it.

I went to Indy in 2010 and it was awesome. The facility is huge and can easily accommodate the number of fans. I found the city and people to be laid back and friendly. Cheap restaurants and a great deal on a nice hotel. I was at Laguna Seca last year and although it was a great trip there were a lot of little hassles that I didn't run into at Indy. Although at Laguna I had the opportunity to get right up close and meet some of the riders as the Pit Pass was include in my ticket package. Amongst others I met Marco Simoncelli and got one of his knee sliders. I felt like a little kid!

Its tons of fun if you can make it.

Not sure why you think its a hassle to cross the boarder. I've been to the states multiple times and never really had any issues when crossing.
My buddy last year bought the ducati package (you have to own a ducati) and we walked into the ducati tent with him but he got special treatment. Free snacks and drinks etc...
The rest of us were pretty jealous lol
We could see the Ducati grand stands from our seat and i could see him during the race holding up the Ducati banners and flags.

Seeing the races live is amazing. Nothing beats the sound! Im sure you'll have a blast

Thats awesome! I was contemplating doing Laguna this year but costs kept me from going (getting married soon $$$).
I wanted Paddock passes this year so I could meet some of the riders and get some autographs and pictures but the packages are so expensive. I might do it next year.

Different people have different experiences. We cross 3 – 5 times a year and seem to get the grumpy ex military type border guards more often then not. Twice I’ve been grilled as to why I am bringing a guitar to a motorcycle race. I mean really, this is what is of the most concern to them?

Don’t be jealous, be happy. Ducati gives back to their own, so why not join ém?

Do you guys ride down, and if so is it a good ride down there? Been wanting to check this out for the last couple of years.

I haven't ridden down (yet) so I can't comment on the roads.

Haha... Maybe some day I will.

I haven't riden down and honestly, I don't think I ever would.
I always take a direct route (less time wasted) but this also means it's extremely boring and it's basically a straight line highway drive.
Don't get me wrong though, I would LOVE to have my bike down there with me.
The whole city basically shuts down at night and there are literally thousands and thousands of bikes everywhere.
I have actually seen many bikes there with Ontario plates so people do make the trek.
Me and my buddies are looking at ways to possibly trailer our bikes down this year...

Here's a pic I took with my iPhone last year...this doesn't even scrape the tip of the iceberg.

I'm driving down. Leave the bike at home. There will be plenty of riding the rest of the year. That weekend is to enjoy the sights, sound, racing and cold beer.

Thanks R1STYLE and Syphen ill just drive down then if i can get a buddy to tag alone.

Here are a few pics of my trip to Indy in 2010. I'm planning to go again this year with my brother in law. I remember there were a lot of demo rides set up. I wonder if Canadians can sign up? Just thinking out loud here as I type this. I'm going to see if there is anything for 2012 when this is posted...

All kinds of bikes in town at night. There was a great atmosphere with friendly people. I saw all kinds of bikes that I usually only see in a magazine or online. The city temporarily changed the names of the streets to different racers past and present.

This one was taken at Laguna Seca in 2011. It shows how close we got the riders out the back of the pits.
