Motogp 2013

Rossi just needs to come to grips with the new way of qualification, so hes not starting on the 3rd row all the time. Hes done very well in the past at the next bunch of tracks so i would suspect he can pull off some good results. Hate seeing crutchlow come in front of him, use to like him but all his bitching about being on a second rate bike is getting old.

It's not the system per se but being fast in the first or second lap on fresh tires. He needs to work up to it. Stoner was great at heading out, setting a fast lap right away and heading back to the pits. That's never been Rossi's way.

I wonder if that's it. Rossi's qualifying laps generally have been faster than all his practice laps, just not as much as the other riders. There's been a pretty consistent pattern of Rossi being in or close to front row during FP1 and FP2, then falling out of it in FP3 and FP4, then falling further back in QP. Other riders seem to be making bigger set-up improvements. His fastest race laps have been consistent with how he's finished. Gibernau might be on to something when he suggested that Rossi's riding style isn't taking full advantage of current electronics. Otherwise, he should be equalling Lorenzo.

Rossi needs to stop coming up with excuses and get on with it.

He's past his prime and everyone else has gotten faster.

As they say in Fastest:
"You can't be the fastest for ever, and when the red lights go out, nobody's looking back. The past is behind you and there's only one question... Who's fastest now?"

Now Stefan Bradl is getting into the elbow (and more) on the ground:

Amazing but a little deceptive as well. There is more clearance because of the banking but the curb comes up to meet the rider. A lot of the riders were doing the same thing in that corner.

Not exactly a vote of confidence from the crew chief...

It would possibly take a ‘minor miracle’ for Valentino Rossi to win another MotoGP™ title, Crew Chief Jeremy Burgess has been quoted as saying.
“I would say that would be a wonderful dream – perhaps a minor miracle,” the Australian told Spain’s Marca. “While at Ducati, Vale told me that he was perhaps no longer at the level of Lorenzo or Stoner, but certainly not at that of only sixth or seventh place either. We’ve now got people like Marquez arriving. Vale has had a lot of success. He will be competitive at various circuits, but only time will tell whether he is able to pick up the title. You have to accept the passing of time.”

I didn't think he was going to win the championship, but I thought he'd be more competitive than he has been. Cal Cruchlow, on an inferior bike, has arguably been better, and has more points to date.

Yup, they've used 4 engines in each bike while Honda has only used 2. I suspect someone will be starting from pitlane more than once before the season is done.

Cal isn't using anything older than what the Factory guys are using to my knowledge. The 2013 chassis has been rejected by all riders so far.

Rossi's problem has been that the Bike has been developed to not suit his riding style - he is running a very different setup on his bike than the other riders to suit his style more. I expect that he will have some more competitive races by the end of the year, and needs to get through some of the initial problems with bike setup that he has had so far.

I expect that the 2014 Honda bike they're testing will be slightly better, and that the riders will move to it and open the gap that much more to the Yamahas. Yamaha, in the meantime, is having engine durability problems and has no expected date with the seamless gearbox. They're not in a good spot, and can only really bank on Lorenzo's robotic-form to pull them some wins.

Valencia is another example.. I'm sure it's probably harder to do it on a GP bike .. But winning from the back or pit lane is still possible.

Yes, that was the one I was thinking of. Incredible run from Pedrosa!

What has the typical gap from the front 3-4 to the rest of the field the last few years? About 20 seconds? The rules regarding a pitlane start for an extra engine is a 10-second penalty, so given clean air in front of an alien for the first few laps, it is conceivable that he could still podium if there is a lot of battling in the front, holding up the pace.
