Moto Gymkhana Drills

loving the vids! I'm so pumped to do this!
that rain must've gotten people a lil nervous and not performing their best.

is there a penalty on tire skidding? Let's say hard rear brake/rolling burn out around a cone(if one can miraculously keep the bike up)?

no penalty. There isn't even a penalty for crashing, as long as you don't hit pylons.....of course the clock keeps ticking, and if anyone helps you pick up the bike, you're dq'd

I recorded myself practicing figure 8... I have to try and be faster on the turns and not ride the rear brake so much.

Any other tips?

I cannot see what line you are tracing.
How far the distance of pylons?

Hint-1: Enter wide, Exit compact.
Hint-2: Use both brake till the half-way of the turn.
Hint-3: You do need rear brake.
Hint-4: How do you create "traction" if you do not ride fast, cannot get enough g-force?
Hint-5: Try not to do "push-steering" too much.

I might go to gymkhana-ish practice this Thursday night at Downsview if no rain.

Thanks for the tips... I was by myself and could find a good spot for the camera.

Cones are 12m distance. And I thought you only use front brake before the turn, and rear brake trough the turn (for moto gymkhana of course).

Yes, reducing speed, you need to use front brake before the cone. After that, still need to use the front brake to sink the front-suspension in order to earn the traction in front...ok, no more free coaching ;)

Would pay good money for instruction like this. We did that Total Control class.. (I think Victor was in my class) but I don't think it prepares us for anything like this.

It is different. I haven't taken the Total Control course, but the book is great. The low speed stuff is great, but that's what it is - slow speed tight manoeuvres for the real world.
Moto-Gymkhana is also about tight manoeuvres, but done as quickly as possible. Big difference in body positioning alone.

ouuu! Where exactly and what time? I'm up for that!

I don't know the street number.
It is the farmer's market on Sheppard Ave, West of Dufferin (Allen road).
After you pass the military base, there is one on your left.
I practice once in a while.
It looks it will stop raining tonight.
I will be going on my CBF1000 (white), 8pm or 9 pm

Mind if I show up to watch a bit?

Edit: That's if there is no rain

I live in West end of Toronto, the city border of Toronto and Etobicoke. Heavy rain here.... if it does not stop in another hour, I will not be coming. But usually, I practice on Thursday night if I do.

Yea, its bad downtown too.. might just resort to tinkering with the bike tonight

I saw these at Winners today and I thought of this thread. I think they'd make nice practice cones and easily stashable in a backpack.

I've been buying these at the dollar store and cutting them in half. It ends but being cheap, but the ones you bought looks a lot better.
