Monthly Hydro Use, What is Everyone At?

I have been comparing with friends/family and I am shocked at how much some consume in a month without any super special stuff like pools etc. Just wondering where people are at in comparison... in kWh as the rates vary. We did have some higher consumption over COVID as the four of us were home all the time but now we are sort of back to normal (I still work from home).

Our last month was 380 kWh which is on the low side for us (mostly due to the short month), we are typically in the 450ish kWh range, we did hit 576 kWh in July--that was our highest over the last year. The current bill was $82 but as I noted that goes up and down with the rates.

Two adults, two teens.
Electric Stove
Electric Dryer

No pool, or hot tub.
Gas heat (boiler) and gas hotwater.
ICE vehicles

Recently ~50 kwh/day. My wife likes to turn on every light in the house and leave them on until we die.

Two adults, two kids.
Gas Stove
Electric Dryer

Pool and hot tub (roughly balance out as hot tub uses less power in summer and pool obviously uses none in winter).
Gas heat and hotwater. Furnace fan on low constantly.
HRV has been on almost constantly to exchange air and minimize viral load in the house. That plan didn't work.
ICE vehicles

Edit:
All LED's. When we bought the house, they were all halogen and incandescent. Turning on all the lights was on the wrong side of 5 KW.

We are about 2,500 KW month pool, hot tub, sewage treatment plant, electric heat pump heat house and pool. Two adults and two kids. Electric car as well.
Just actually looked looks like we're over 3000 every month

I'm about $120/mo, pretty consistent all year long.

WFH wife + .5kids. I WFO.
2 computers 4 monitors and 2 printers always on.
Electric stove and dryer, 2.5 fridges
Pool in the summer
4 tier light garden (keeps my green thumb green over the winter)
Heat pump for garage heat.
100% LED lighting
Smart switches on everything, house shuts everything down automatically when we leave.

Gas for main house heat and hotwater.
ICE vehicles

Last month I used 725kWh ($120), which is really high for just one person, but I think the garage heater is whats killing me. I run it all the time when I'm not at work. Can't work in the garage when its below 15degC.

In the summer I'm down to ~250kWh ($70), but monthly average over an entire year is about 450kWh.

Single person
Gas boiler/water heater
Gas stove
Electric Dryer
Essentially no LED's in the house (working on changing that)
All the lights on all the time

Literally looking at my last bill now:

01/13/22 - 02/10/22 (28 days)
Usage: 876kWh
Adjusted (wtf?): 907.53
$122.28 (including a 'Total Ontario Support' discount of 21.65) = $144 total

3 adults
2 kids
No hot tub
Chevy Volt (charged almost daily)

$120-130 is our typical bill per month.

I am militant about turning off the lights when the room is not being used. Parents taught me since I was a child and my wife and MIL are NOT of that mentality. Kids are even worse but trying to teach toddlers about this is tough.

My toddlers are far better at lights than my wife. They try to remember, she actively resists. I pay the hydro bill from her account.

Hmm interesting thread.

Last bill was 603 kWh (620 adjust kWH ??)
Total $101

Single person. I usually have on 3 lights (all light are LED's) and do laundry once a week. (dryer is electric)
Main draws are 2 computers with multi monitors running most of the day, off overnight.
Also some network gear, server, and cameras running 24/7.

This should come down a bit as the furnace is running less, but not by much.

The only way I can see myself saving on usage would be to upgrade my monitors as new models are much more efficient then what I have now.

When they went montly billing I swear they also re-giged the rates, as I am sure I was paying close to this every 3 months.

FYI - as typed this I got my gas bill and they issued a credit. So it seem Enbridge "estimates" usage. My dec bill was waaayy higher then it should have been so I have been submitting meter readings. Now it seems to be adjusted properly.
Maybe the same thing can be done with electric meter, but I am sure they have a better monitoring system in place for that will check!

Townhouse, mostly single (not single on some weekends), bills set to autopay, not sure about actual kW use but it consistently has been around $150ish this winter - seems more than average for bigger houses and more ppl as I see above, might need to put those LED lights after all :)

In Toronto I believe that Toronto Hydro upgraded the meters so they automatically submit the readings via some type of signal. I don't think they actually get read...but I'm not sure.

Mississauga we have a water meter that wasn't functional so we had to submit readings manually (thanks for cutting the cable to the transmitter Kevin), and they replaced to a new meter in the basement. Since I didn't let them open up my walls to run the cable the guy has to get out of his car and go near my front door so he can read the meter.

Enbridge always bitches and complains about me not opening my gate as for some reason they install these things in the back yard. I refuse to keep my rear yard open as I've got kids so I submit the readings monthly.

Had a nice $300 bill once and when I called 'well you never submit it, so we just assume it's X.' They replaced the meter with a new one, and actually took a reading lol. Oops.

But I do need to let them come in 1x/year to confirm the readings I'm submitting. I don't understand why they don't just automate the meter readings.

Averaging $80 per month, gas heat/hot water/stove, electric dryer/ electric oven. 2 adults , both pretty conscientious about lights ect.

last house was $175/180 , mostly the hot tub .

Interesting topic. I put in a hot tub last spring and decided to track my hydro as I never did before.

Feb - 992 KWH
Jan - 1141 KWH
Dec - 1006 KWH
Nov - 842 KWH
Oct - 727 KWH
Sept - 1060 KWH - warm month, air on 100%
Aug - 842 KWH
July - 988 KWH
June - 613 KWH - first month with the hot tub

Avg cost $151 over that time.

WFH, so computers running all the time, gas heat/stove/water heater, electric dryer. All LED lighting.
Return to office next week, so maybe a small reduction.

We’ve had hydro bills as high as $600 due to being on holidays and the kids turning the AC down to 58 F. and leaving every damn window open when we were gone. I don’t worry too much about turning the lights off too much anymore with everything being LED. Biggest waste of electricity are electric dryers and hot water tanks, you are literally pouring energy down the drain or out your dryer vent. If you’ve got kids showering and washing 24/7, do yourself a favour and get a gas hot water tank and dryer. Not to get off topic but I was at a customer’s industrial unit in Markham yesterday that‘s running a Bitcoin operation in.It‘s only about 2000 square feet and his hydro bill is $14,500 A MONTH.

Electricity hasn't gone up much, but the natural gas bill has about doubled - wtf ?

Question is how much is he making in BTC to offset that $14,500/month @Bobo. I’ll assume he’s making good money to continue.

Yes gas prices have been crazy higher this year. Something seems to be going on in Europe driving the price up.

25% bump in carbon tax. My carbon tax was $44 last month.
