Misti here saying hello!!!

So, what does "good throttle control" really mean?

So many times people will give you advice like "You have to be smooth" Great advice but the problem is they never tell you what to do to achieve this.

"good throttle control" is the first step to being smooth and is one of the things that we must all master. No abrupt changes to the throttle or brakes. Some people also do not realize the importance of vision and how much the throttle is effected by vision and your subconcious.

Welcome!!

Hey Misti, welcome and already being awesome!. Got some pics of you @ the track? Throttle control I believe means smooth rolling on/off, and nothing that could upset the chassis whilst in a lean when its matters the most. I think.

Thanks :) Check out my website (hasn't been updated in years) mistihurst.com for pics.

Yes, good throttle control is smooth rolling on and off. How do you achieve this? When should you begin rolling on the throttle?

Welcome... I enjoy the magazine and your articles.
Thanks!

Welcome! Very interested, could you post links to some of your most educational articles?
My website, mistihurst.com has some of my articles - i need to update it to post more. You could also try Motorcyclemojo.com as they sometimes have them posted.

Absolutely. Good throttle control helps you be smooth and vision will help with throttle control for sure.

My question above is, when do you begin rolling on the gas? How might your vision affect when you are able to get on the gas and how you roll it on?

Cheers,
Misti

First you need to be looking thru the turn before you get into it.

with the throttle you should never be fully off the throttle, you are not stopping but slowing for a corner or turn, if you are completly off the throttle you are going to upset the bike when you try to come back on the throttle. Trail breaking will help with this as well.

So if you are asking when should you begin to increase the throttle? As soon as you tip the motorcycle into the turn you need to be increasing the throttle, how fast and how much you are increasing the throttle will be in direct relation to your lean angle and available traction in any given turn.
