Min wage increase

You can make fun if you want but the "system" is full of saboteurs and that has a detrimental effect on the economy, culture and quality of life for many. The evidence is there for all to see. That's why we're having this discussion. Not to keep going back to the well but Germany 1930's would be a case study of cutting out the rot c/w splendid results. Somebody else called it draining the swamp. Don't blame the vast army of low wage workers for societies ills, they are the backbone.

Yes, the system. I thought life was all peaches and cream, like in nature for the past couple billion years. Where did we go wrong. (no question mark there, because its deeply rhetorical?) [question mark there because that part isn't rhetorical?] {not sure what that last part was}

By what measure?

First off look at the massive deficit increases when it is applied.

More complicated explanation (and it is even much more complicated than this, but this is GTAM...). One of the corner stones of supply side economics is the Laffer Curve and more importantly the idea that by lowering taxes we will cause enough economic growth to actually increase revenue (or at least not decrease it). The curve has a "bell" shape with the top of the bell peak revenue. At 100% taxes (right side) revenue drops to zero (this is likely incorrect but it will be very low), at zero percent tax (left side) it also drops to zero (obvious). Lowering taxes shifts us left on the curve, raising to the right. Now when these concepts were first proposed no one was sure at what percentage the peak was.

What we know now from trying it multiple times and looking at western economies in general, ~70% taxation is the peak of the curve. As we move left from there revenue drops, originally the peak was thought (hoped) to be much more to the left. Now the interesting part, peak GDP growth sits at about 35% taxation. If we move right of this to increase revenue we slow GDP growth (bad). If we move left of this point we hurt GDP growth (also bad). Remember tax dollars are spent in the economy and contribute to GDP (most do not understand how gov spending contributes to GDP and the economy in general)...

Those last two sentences are the problem. When politicians promote super low taxes telling you it will increase GDP (based on supply side economics), well they are lying or incompetent. If they actually balanced the budget for an extended period of time we would be in big trouble, of course they kick the can down the road and run massive deficits (see my first sentence above)... They talk balanced budgets but they know it will not work.

What does work, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer... If they based economic policy on what we know today about the Laffer Curve Supply Side Economics does in-fact work... but that does not fit their narrative.

The only anomaly I know of is Ireland (Republic). They are running super low corporate taxes and by the numbers their economy looks OK but there are also some serious issues (past, present, and future).

Hope that helps to fill the education gap....

Yes the system, law books, codes, rules, regulations, by-laws, traffic fines, social programs, taxes, public schools and hospitals, infrastructure and management thereof, financial wizardry you know the system I could list components all day long. We've come a long way baby why talk about a billion years? Are you suggesting the human mind doesn't understand fair play? Do I think micro managing plebe wages is going to lead us to nirvana? It's bigger than that.

I know a few CEOs. One helped run a company into the ground and then was replaced....I bumped into him a few years later as the CEO of another similar company and wondered how the heck he got the job. Turns out that quite a few of these idiots just swap around each other's jobs in a form of a big old boys club. I'm sure there are some that do great jobs...but there seems to be a lot more that just feed off a very large and growing trough. A trough that isn't open to the likes of you or I.

Disagree.

Just because you don't recognize their sizable workload doesn't mean they don't earn their keep. And ultimately your opinion doesn't matter unless you're a shareholder.

Fair play? Is that like equality of outcome or something?

What is this bs? Joe Blow does 47hrs/week making, generously 100grand. CEO of same company works 57hrs/week making millions. Conclusion, ceo works harder longer needs extra money.

Invent the next Facebook then. Its easy.

What is this BS ? Burger flipper works 40hrs making $500 per week and a surgeon Works 45 hours making $300,000 per year. Friggin unfair man.

I hope you're being dilbertly obtuse. Let me make a very simple example of fair play. A hundred people with parched lips stranded in the Mojave. You just happen to be driving thru with skids of bottled water in back. You could charge $5/bottle for a very tidy profit but that market could bear $50/bottle. Do you charge $5 or $50 or something in between. I don't know why you're talking equality of outcome or something. Is that a talking point or something?

Ya ya I get it har har. So you don't see any problems at all anywhere. You do know this post modern world is up to the rafters with laws specifically designed to circumvent human nature. Millions of pages of laws the world over for this very purpose. Funny you don't want Muslims here because they won't do right by you. That's the only reason you don't want them here. We'll need a law for that. Time to remove those rose coloured glasses buddy.

I don't want Muslims here? Cool, I like learning new things about myself. Didn't know that one.

This sucks though man... I just paid a mechanic my whole week's wage so he could work on my car for half a day.

NOT. FAIR.

I DO see problems. They have mostly something to do with losers and hypocrites calling for 'fair play' which used to mean equal opportunity, but now means equal outcome.

Pens beat the Predators on Monday... SO not fair. Should've been a tie game. Hockey is so unfair.

Sorry, I meant to say certain Muslims. The ones that would do you harm.

Auto mechanic is a good example. Some guy's making $11/hr. Mechanics rate is $110/hr. 10-1 ratio. It is what it is, no problem so far. Except in the NOT. FAIR. world he rounds up 1hr. So Mr. $11 can now work more than 10hrs (income tax, shop tax) to cover the unfair round up.

Oh my God you don't want to be murdered? That's so unfair to murderers

Seriously, take off the rose coloured glasses and see the world for what it is.
