Metzler tires wobbly, or just my brain?

So, as some of you may recall I blew a rear tire on the highway about a month ago. It was a bit scary, but not nearly as bad as one might expect. Anyway, since then my replacement tires, two metzler 880s, are performing well, but the rear tire feels to me like its all over the place - much more so than my Pirelli MT-66. These are my first Metzlers. I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this when switching to them, or if I'm just being paranoid after blowing the tire.
 
Pirelli and Metzler are the same company, there's a REALLY good chance the rubber is the same on both tires.

I'd grab a grease pencil and write Pirelli on the side of the tire, Pretty sure that'll solve your problem.

But it will devalue the tire by 20%.
 
Ha, thats interesting. I didnt know that. What about shape, firmness. etc.... are there any other dimensions that could affect my experience of them?
 
are you riding on grooves or tar snakes ? some models of tires i've had in the past track these tar snakes like a mofo...

From my experience, Pirelli and Metzler has the same profile/dimension in a tire. They are generally narrower and have a higher lean angle when it comes to sport tires
 
They just feel wobbly in general, must just be a bit paranoid.
 
maybe it wasn't balanced properly?

perhaps what you are feeling is the difference between a new tire and a used tire, not necessarily the different between manufactures.
could just be that you have still work in the new tire to get it to a point that will equal that of an already worked into tire that you poped.
 
Yeah, that what I thought as well. Although its been about 1000 or so km. Anyway, i'm not too concerned.
 
I swapped out my Metzelers as I didn't like the feel of them. Got Michelins instead and the shaky stuff went away.
 
Make sure the air pressure is proper.

Re: Tire pressure, I do need to check it. But it was ok when I got it from the shop.

metzlers are very good, like he said pirellis basically

its definitely not the rubbers causing wobble. but i dont know the 880.
 
I would bet that what you are feeling is new tire vs. Old tire. The old tire was likely worn in the middle and the new tire has more of the stock "V" shape. This makes it turn with less effort. Your rear ride height would also be a little steeper allowing the bike to turn easier.

I really didn't like them in the wet and had a few slides with them too when I really shouldn't have in the dry. Don't get me wrong, they weren't terrible but I just didn't like them compared to the two other sets of other make tires I'd had before (so, I'm no expert but I know what I like and don't like). I swapped them out well before their wear date and my Michelin Pilot Roads have been awesome wet and dry.
 
Still needs proper air pressure. But a 24 of beer in the top box could lead to a high speed wobble, regardless of the tire..........
